Office 2016 uninstalls my Visio 2013

You will have to contact someone at HUP to get the specific "How to" instructions .

MS "improved' 2016 so that it now actively does not allow you to run ANY older Office applications. Totally bogus.

As I understand it you should be able t buy Visio and Project through HUP.  But, MS also has a "free upgrade" offering.  I don't know if it applies to HUP, but you can try.

Yay..today they finally sent me my link to Visio and Project 2016.

You do have to persevere. It took me about ten tries over 5 days with the answer desk online chat before they escalated it. Within 48 hrs they called and emailed me the links.

I tried SEVEN times, and every representative had a different approach and response.  I finally got someone who "escalated" the issue.  After some e-mail interaction I actually got a call back from someone who knew what they were doing, and got my Visio 2016 license set up. 

**A BIG problem is if you don't have your software associated with a Microsoft account.  If you installed 2013 using a product key, they absolutely can't help you.**You need to have your product key associated with your Microsoft account.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbfIHR_52do At the 32 minute point of this video they BRAG about being able to do a side-by-side installation of CTR 2013 beside 2010.  The new limit in the CTR 2016 installer is “artificial”.  CTR technology is supposed to isolate the programs inside of the CTR from those outside!  2016 CTR has broken this feature!

I am eligible for the Home Use Program and have downloaded the Office 2016 Install link, but I already have Office/Visio/Project 2013 installed.  When I click to run, I am informed that Visio 2013 & Project 2013 are not compatible.

The Home Use Program email states I am also entitled to purchase Visio & Project 2016 under HUP, but the link to these only goes to the Office 2016 page. How can I purchase both Visio & Project 2016 under HUP?

The link they gave you apparently had the product key embedded (probably encrypted) in it.  It sounds like the new way that "free" Office 365 1 year subscriptions are given to buyers of some new computers. They have button (aka link) they click to activate their subscription (so that they can provide the email address to associate to the license).

MS Support workers "being in a hurry" is a common complaint, at least you got a "bye", most people have their calls "accidentally" dropped while it is being transferred from  one person to another.

Unfortunately, I know of no other way of fixing your problem other than calling MS Support back and insisting your license being upgraded CORRECTLY.  Most of the feedback we've had have been about Visio rather than project, but I have not seen any mention of anyone being given a lesser version during this free upgrade. My understanding is that it is a direct version for version swap.

Contact MS Support again, (online chat is handy for the history you quoted, <grin> ) and keep asking to be transferred to a supervisor, again and again.  Start by asking for a trouble ticket number. You will need this because you can expect your contact to be dropped, more than once. Having the trouble ticket will help to (trivially) speed things up when you subsequently are forced to call back. You have somewhat more of an uphill battle that the average caller.  In the past, everyone else has reported that it was nearly impossible to find anyone who knew about the free upgrade. You found someone relatively easily, but they still ripped you off.  Now you are going to have to convince someone to cancel the Standard license and give you a Pro one. I expect it is going to be just as difficult, for slightly different reasons (most support people are going to expect you to be satisfied with what you have).  Others have reported spending 10's of hours, spread out over several dropped contacts and several DAYS before getting satisfaction. I expect you can plan for the same sort of reception. 

Plan for the worst, and hope for the best.

The only other thing I can think of is a very long shot. Copy your comments here to a new "suggestion" on one of the "UserVoice" sites. I know that those suggestions are read by real MS staff, with at least some power to start change. Maybe one of them will contact MS Support to educate them better ...
