Word 2016 typing is very slow

I just installed Word 2016 version 16.0.4229.1029. I am experiencing very slow typing with a document whose format is as follows:

  • 10,000+ words
  • 91 pages
  • one long table: 2,000+ rows, 5 columns

I have turned off spell checker, corrector, etc as well as turned off all unnecessary Windows 10 Home animation. I even copied it to outside my OneDrive folder.

My computer is as follows:

  • ASUS laptop
  • Intel Core i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.40 GHz
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 64-bit operating system
  • x64-based processor

Prior to this installation, I was using Word 2013 and typing was fast with this doc.

[As I last resort: revert to Word 2013, but how?] 

I have tested other documents and they seem to be fine.

I am having the exact same problem here, and with regard to threads in several other forums, there are many users experiencing the same issues with Word 2016. @ZahirDhalla, could you solve the problem? Thanks for giving an update.

Hello Samuel [and previously Kay too],

I have 'solved' the problem but it requires some work. I figured it was to do with working in Word 2016 on a document that was created in Word 2013 or prior. So I created a brand new 2016 document and, in my case, fresh new tables in it, and then copied and pasted the text from the old pre-2016 version. It worked.

I hope you guys can do the same. Please let us know.

    I am so sorry to hear, and appreciate your patience as we sort this out. We definitely don't want you to be disappointed, I'm adding some info here that I hope will be helpful to you -

    From the build number you shared, looks like you're on the Deferred Channelas indicated by the release history on our TechNet site. This means you get our best builds with new features every four months, and do receive the regular monthly security and bug fix updates that go out to all Office customers.

    We have a fix for this issue that we're currently monitoring, that just went out to our Current Channel (monthly) customers. This means your channel should be receiving the build with the fixes shortly. 

    If you'd like to switch to a different channel and get on the monthly builds instead, you can reach out to your Admin or It Pro to set that up, since they control the cadence of how often you receive new builds.

    Yes, the issue is still persisting. The version of Word that I am using now is 16.0.6001.1078. This is very disappointing and is turning me away from the program.

    Thanks for letting us know that this does not appear in Excel or PowerPoint. Is the issue still persisting for you with Word? What build number for Office are you currently on?

    I have seem to found the problem (Possibly) When checking my CPU usage in the Task Manager, I've noticed that it only utilizes one of my four cores on my CPU. It is running 3.4Ghz at 4 cores. When typing, it uses about %50 of one core. I'm running on Windows 7 and 8GB of Ram. I think the problem lies in the software and not your computer. When using Power Point or Excel, the problem in not present.
