Word 2016 typing is very slow

HI, I have this problém only in Web view layout (this control is in the right bottom corner), that I use to fit more text on one page. after I change to Print layout, it disappears. so that is a possible workaround for you.

You can try uninstalling the offending updates.  If you can't do that, you can take the brute force approach and do a "retrograde upgrade" back to Office 2013 so you can run it until you hear that the problem has been fixed.

Do not immediately use Help>Check for Updates. Instead, Google office 2016 for mac download 15.27 updater. You're looking for a link that starts with MS16-121: Description of the security update for Office 2016 for Mac. This is the manual updater. Download and run it to update to 15.27, then ignore Office's suggestions to update after that.

Start on the On the My Account page, choose Install.

Choose Language and install options.

Choose Additional install options.

Choose Download offline installer.

After you see a prompt to open or save the offline installer file, choose your preferred option.

If you choose Open, the file will download. Once the download is complete, you'll see a new virtual drive D that contains the Office installation files.

Note  If you already have another drive labeled D, Office will create a virtual drive with the next available letter.

Note  Make sure the email address and Microsoft account you use is the same one you used previously.

Enter the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account, and then choose Sign in to start using Office.

I cannot believe this is still not fixed! We've had to start rolling our Surface users back to Office 2013. It's ridiculous!

I Have the same problem on a Macbook Pro with OS X Sierra. Its an i7 with 16GB of RAM.

Everything was working "fine" (to the extent that fine can be with the office package) until the latest update from Office. 

Its affecting all my documents that have at least one image or table. Word crashing every 1 or 2 hours.

Also experience sluggish behavior on the updated EXCEL.

This has happened before to me  with some previous updates both on Windows and Mac environments, which at the time was only fixed when new updates were rolled out.

Dont even give me the crap of conflicts with other applications, etc. Since this last update WORD is consuming huge amounts of memory and power!!!

I use OFFICE for professional reasons, it is an OFFICE 365 BUSINESS ACCOUNT that is being paid... 

It is unbelievable how can an update rolled out mid December with these serious issues.

At the moment it is unusable and I'm currently unable to work, and I dont mean productively, I mean I can't work at all as it is impossible to compile or review final reports.

Appreciate if someone can assist with this... It is FRUSTRATING to have such bad experience with a paid and EXPENSIVE service!!!
