Reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on New Computer

I have read a lot of rumors on this topic on the web and want to get a real answer before proceeding.  I purchased Microsoft Office 2013 a few months ago but never installed it.  I'd like to install it now.  However, I plan to purchase a new laptop in approximately a year.  Some of the rumors say that once you install Microsoft Office 2013, not only can you not transfer it to a new machine at a later date, but you can't even reinstall it on the same machine if you reformat the hard drive, decided to install a brand new hard drive, or something similar that changes your machine's hardware configuration.  I want to make sure that if I install Microsoft Office 2013 now that 1) I can remove it later and use the license on a new laptop (Windows 8) and 2) I can reinstall it on this same computer after reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows (most likely Windows 7) and other apps.   Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community and we are glad to assist you with your concern.

You will be able to re-install Office 2013 on the same computer if you had to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system.

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you, but not more than one time every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner). If you transfer the software to another computer, that other computer becomes the "licensed computer."

Any time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer and you may not retain any copies.

    Hi I wonder if you can help me!

    I got a new PC downloaded Office Home & Student 2013 but my PC was faulty and had to go back.

    I therefore lost office.  Can I get it back?  I got it through a product key.  If I can get it back how do I do this?

    I have seen on the site that you can re-install it but cannot work out how to with a product key.

    Hi Jose,

    In order to assist you with the issue, I need some more details:

    What are the other troubleshooting steps that you have tried?

    You may manually remove the traces of Office from the computer, refer to the section ‘Manual steps for uninstalling Office 2013 or Office 365’ in the link below:

    Note: Ensure to read the disclaimer before modifying or deleting registry keys.

    Ensure to save the Office download file on to the computer.

    Step 2:

    Once the traces of Office 2013 are removed, turn off the windows firewall on the computer.

    • Logon to Windows 8 computer with administrative credentials.
    • Click on Start button and from the options available on the screen click on Control Panel.
    • On the opened window click on More Settings option from the bottom of the list in the left pane.
    • On the appeared window click on Windows Firewall.
    • On Help protects your computer with Windows Firewall Window click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off link that is available in the left pane.
    • On the opened window click on Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) radio buttons under both Home or work (private) network location settings and Public network location settings sections to turn the firewall off.
    • To save the changes that you have made click on Ok button.

    Note: Ensure to turn on the Firewall once the troubleshooting is done.

    Step 3:

    Once the firewall is turned off, try the steps from the section ‘Start an In-Private browser session’ in the article below and check if it helps:

    Im using windows 8.1 in my pc and I have office 2013 pro installed in my pc.

    I had to format my pc and this erased everything. I installed windows 8.1 again but for some reason i cant install the office 2013 pro i already bought.

    It says "if my internet connection is working which it es. I do have enough space on my hard drive and there's is not any version of office installed (after formatting) and it says sometimes that there is a previous beta version installed or something like that.

    I tried fixit tool and tons of other things. nothing worked so far.

    please any ideas.

    P.D. I can not even install previous versions of office.

    Hi Mathew,

    Let me assist you with the issue related to Office 2013.

    Try the steps below and check if it helps:

    Check if Excel is running in compatibility mode:

    · Close Excel.

    · Browse to the location mentioned below:

    · C:\Program Files or programs files (X86)\Microsoft Office\Office15

    Or C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\Office15

    · Right click on Excel.exe<Properties<Compatibility

    · Uncheck the box Run this Program in Compatibility Mode, Make sure you also click on the option change settings for all users tab at the bottom of the same screen.

    · Click on Apply and Ok.

    Now try to open Excel and check if the issue persists.
