Reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on New Computer

I have read a lot of rumors on this topic on the web and want to get a real answer before proceeding.  I purchased Microsoft Office 2013 a few months ago but never installed it.  I'd like to install it now.  However, I plan to purchase a new laptop in approximately a year.  Some of the rumors say that once you install Microsoft Office 2013, not only can you not transfer it to a new machine at a later date, but you can't even reinstall it on the same machine if you reformat the hard drive, decided to install a brand new hard drive, or something similar that changes your machine's hardware configuration.  I want to make sure that if I install Microsoft Office 2013 now that 1) I can remove it later and use the license on a new laptop (Windows 8) and 2) I can reinstall it on this same computer after reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows (most likely Windows 7) and other apps.   Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community and we are glad to assist you with your concern.

You will be able to re-install Office 2013 on the same computer if you had to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system.

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you, but not more than one time every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner). If you transfer the software to another computer, that other computer becomes the "licensed computer."

Any time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer and you may not retain any copies.

    My hard drive died, and I can't recover anything at all from it.  I've just purchased a new computer, and want to reinstall Office.  How do I go about proving that the old computer is now completely useless, and that I therefore have not kept any copy of the software?

    I'm hoping for something easy.

    I've been told that if you lose Office because of a hardware failure(crash) and you have recycled your computer, you should be eligible to reinstall Office on a new computer.  Do you have the serial number etc of your old computer?  Is someone still using your old computer?  Write an email to MS support and hope they respond!  I also found that when I had first tried reinstalling my old 2013 Office onto my new computer(mine crashed), MS had already installed a trial version of Office 365.  Check your programs and see if they have done this to you.  Uninstall Office 365 and then try again.

    I have uninstalled the office 2013 from the old computer and now want to install it on the new computer. It won't accept the install and says that software is already installed on another computer.
