Reinstalling Microsoft Office 2013 on New Computer

I have read a lot of rumors on this topic on the web and want to get a real answer before proceeding.  I purchased Microsoft Office 2013 a few months ago but never installed it.  I'd like to install it now.  However, I plan to purchase a new laptop in approximately a year.  Some of the rumors say that once you install Microsoft Office 2013, not only can you not transfer it to a new machine at a later date, but you can't even reinstall it on the same machine if you reformat the hard drive, decided to install a brand new hard drive, or something similar that changes your machine's hardware configuration.  I want to make sure that if I install Microsoft Office 2013 now that 1) I can remove it later and use the license on a new laptop (Windows 8) and 2) I can reinstall it on this same computer after reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows (most likely Windows 7) and other apps.   Please advise.  Thank you.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community and we are glad to assist you with your concern.

You will be able to re-install Office 2013 on the same computer if you had to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system.

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you, but not more than one time every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner). If you transfer the software to another computer, that other computer becomes the "licensed computer."

Any time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer and you may not retain any copies.

    I am very happy to report that the Microsoft Chat service agent resolved my issue. She uninstalled the Office 365 that came with the new PC and then reinstalled my previously purchased Office Professional 2013. There was no downtime other than about 45 minutes for the above process. I am up and running. Phew...

    I had an old Acer upgraded from W7 to W10.  I had on it Office 10 with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, plus Publisher 2013 and Access 2013, all as perpetual stand alone products.

    The computer crashed beyond redemption, and no recovery of any kind was possible.  I had not therefore uninstalled these programs.

    The procedure for recovering these programs was in two stages, first for 2010 and then for 2013, the latter being much easier.  Provided you have evidence of the purchases, plus the product keys, then find the Microsoft Chat button and cry help! 

    I did it in two stages, the first took over an hour and the second took less than 30 minutes (depends partly on your download speed - mine is up to 75Mb/s).  At each stage I gave the agents control of my new computer.  They were extremely polite and helpful and succeeded in getting my programs back very efficiently.

    There was no question of waiting 90 days before pursuing this task.

    90 days of downtime without using either computer? I want to be able to use immediately after uninstalling from old PC. I have to do my work. Is there anyway I can do this? Please?

    You need to uninstall the Office 2013 from your previous device. After 90 days of inactivity of the software from your old device, you can use the key to your new device.
