I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.

Unfortunately, as you probably saw from reading through this thread, the official response from Microsoft is that there are no plans to allow local storage on the Mac. If this is a requirement you should switch to another program. Microsoft apparently does not see this as a priority on the Mac side.
been using one note on windows pc for quite awhile. have notebooks, locally, personal one drive, business one drive, business sharefile, etc.
Now I am adding a Mac. oh boy it is horrible on a Mac! can't access my files from share file, can't create any notebooks on Mac locally. can only use one drive to store files. Plus you can't pin the open notebooks on the left side.
I see you guys have been aware of this problem since 2014. Are you looking at dropping the one note application? Is that why there has not been any progress? I can see thousands of users dropping one note and having to find another note application because many companies would require only using the storage on their computers. So is that what is happening? Thousands dropped one note and now you don't have as many users so you guys are not making it functional on the Mac??
This is a big problem. People need the ability to create notebooks on their local drives!!!!!!!! HUGE ISSUE!
Are you guys (Microsoft) going to fix this or just leave it and let the app go to the wayside?
Public cloud storage service = Security issue. Full stop.
No agreement can make data secure and private.
You should keep both options and give the users to choose - local - no sync and cloud with local offline replica - synced across all devices registrered to particular account.
It will make product very usefull and users will like it a lot, since it is great tool, but disabled now with not so good design limitation.
Thanks for the feedback and in the free version of OneNote for Mac it only syncs to the cloud as you see. Why don't you have your files in the cloud? Without doing this you all cannot use your notes on other devices. And the team is looking to add Office 365 & SharePoint sync for work users who cannot sync to OneDrive; right now it was more consumer focused.
As for local files there isn't yet a way to upload them to OneDrive yet, do you have a bunch of old files that you don't have open in OneNote that you can't upload?
