Office 2010 Service Pack 2 install fails

Tried many/most of the suggestions. Dell machine under warranty so called them. After tech uninstalled Office 2010 and could not get it reinstalled, I had to pay $$$$ to get their Software support on line. Basically he turned off Print Spooler, then reinstall worked, then ran Windows Update and all updates processed including the Office 2010 SP2 that was my original problem. I am of course going to protest the huge fee, to just stop Print Spooler, but thought this might help others.

I must say that I can't see that number now in the place you point me to, Rohn007. It was on another machine, and I'm getting tired of this. I transcribed it from the screen to this text box.

I have SP1 reported here. And the number you quote.

SP2 download ran more than once: do Microsoft programmers have a strong command of English? When I run it now I get a message like "There are no products found that this update applies to". Sheesh - it's already installed! Badly, but in there.

Getting towards the end of the month so I might bite the bullet and just install the SP2 Update on all machines...  We pay for all traffic, up and down, in my country. For the solid ISPs.

I've tried poppy's Repair, below, but that fails too. MSOCache and disc. Finds 'Invalid locations' for things it's looking for... and they're there...

Try following the steps and check if you are able to work with Outlook with Sp2 installed.

· Close Outlook.

· Browse to the location mentioned below:

For Win7 64 bit:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

· Right click on Outlook.exe< Properties<Compatibility

· Uncheck the box  Run this Program in Compatibility Mode, Make sure you also click on the option change settings for all users tab at the bottom of the same screen

· Click on Apply and Ok.

· Open Outlook and check if it works.

So, end of story (for me anyway) - nothing doing with installing SP2 on the desktop so am now the proud owner of Office 2013 Pro Plus 64 bit version.  Once I removed some 32 bit Office files the 64 bit version installed without a hitch.  Strangely, 2010 SP 2 installed fine on one of our Windows 7 laptops; beats me.

But in my case the SP2 update will install. It is just outlook that will not run after the install. All other office programs will work. The only dialog msg I get is Outlook stopped working. It offers to repair or go into safe mode. None of this makes a difference. The only way I can get outlook to run is to uninstall SP2.

"I am also having a problem with the SP2 update. I am running win8/office2010 x64. I can download the update without a problem. Either by windows update or file down load. It will install without a problem. All of the office products will work except for outlook. When I start outlook I get an error dialog that says outlook will not start. I have done repair, safe mode, uninstall office, use fixit to completely remove, reboot 1000 times. If I install the SP2 update outlook fails, if I uninstall the SP2 update it works. I have also downloaded the SP2 update, disconnected from the web, turned off all Antivirus installed the update and outlook fails to start.  Uninstalled the update and it works. This is where I am at now. Any ideas?"
