Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    I downloaded Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center and double checked that my Horizontal Scrolling was on, which it was. I then when to app-specific settings and clicked Add New, then Manually Add Program and added Microsoft Excel. Side scrolling now works for me in Excel.

    Note: Microsoft Excel 2013, Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000, Windows 10 64-bit

    I tried several methods, Scroll Lock, installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre  and install logitech setpoint. 

    I am on Win7 32 bit, and I need Excel Horizontal scroll where my MS 5000 mouse did, sadly the scroll wheel wore out after 5 years of service, and Logitech Marathon 705, even the MS 4000 wireless also working seamlessly. 

    And this terrible mouse with the stupid windows swipe design, is so hard to get it work on Excel to have horizontal scroll. 

    Today, I tried scroll lock method doesn't work, logitech set point doesn't work. 

    Finally, I loaded up Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre, and it works. 

    I decided to add a MS mouse and keyboard shortcut to my startup folder.

    f I knew the absolutely ridiculous ARROGANT changes and STUFF UPS Microsoft have arrogantly implemented I would NEVER and I MEAN NEVER have bought and paid for Windows 8 or Office 2013.

    I don't want synching email, I do want my Windows phone to Synch direct to the PC without Cloud. I want my Side Scroll function to Work.

    I have gone back to Microsoft and asked for my Windows 7 and Office 2007 back. They refuse.

    THIS IS GARBAGE. I HAVE GONE FROM BEING A MICROSOFT PROMOTER TO MY CUSTOMERS to Outright HATING the product.

    IF YOU DO NOT FIX THESE ITEMS, I WILL NEVER MIGRATE TO WINDOWS 10, IT WILL ONLY COMPOUND THESE PROBLEMS.

    Ee are your customers, not your PRISONERS

    +1, exactly identical behavior as Thanatica described. Does NOT work in Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013 and Windows Explorer. Works with all other applications including MS Office and Internet Explorer. Windows 7 Enterprise x64 fully updated.

    Works perfectly everywhere including Excel, Powerpoint and Windows Explorer if I downgrade to Office 2010.

    Microsoft, please fix.

    I can scroll left and right in excel and word (office 2013) by tilting the mouse wheel left or right.  I think in the control panel for the mouse it is called horizontal scrolling and you can set it there.  But no setting will allow power point 2013 to scroll horizontally
