MS Word 2007 crashing and .wbk files appearing on desktop - repairs

Dear Community,

I am currently using MS Word and it keeps on crashing.

I have noticed that in every instance when the MS Word 2007 restarts - the ribbon down the side will show four or five instances of one document.

I usually do not know which one to choose - one will have repairs - of which when I try and see the location of the repairs - I can not locate them.

The ribbon on the top of the screen advises me that I have Macro's - I understand this as I save most documents as Macro enabled as some of my documents have pictures etc in them.

I have ended up with a lot of documents with parts missing.

I also have MS Word creating Back up's - this is confusing me and I have more icons on my desktop. When word crashes - most of my information has disappeared.

I am only new to MS Word 2007 - so I do not want to loose any data - yet I also want MS Word 2007 to work and not crash when mainly working on large documents.

    The drive that .ptm is on my desktop.

    It seems that they are the programs inside of them of which that I have saved the zip drives on my external hard drive. They contain the .exe files so that I can extract the files that these files relate to whenever I wish in the future.

    I could create another folder and move the files inside the .ptm to just in case.

    I  have never had this happen before. Or I could just leave them as they are now.

    I know that I may be looking at incorrect items on my computer - but if it assists in smoother operation and I also can relocate for future reference - that would be fine.

    I do remember uploading the program back in December - but my computer kept crashing and

    I do not use Process Explorer - it was suggested to use it in one of my subjects for assistance on here -

    AFTER RESETTING USER OPTIONS NO FILES FOUND AFTER FIX.

    So I can reload it at any stage from the community section of help.

    Could you please send me the two links to your articles again re

    1. Savng in two locations and automatically back up documents
    2. Automatically backing up in Word
    3. Toolbars in Word.

    Thanks for the advice about removing the addin - could you please step me through how to do that?

    I regret I do not know what the significance of the hidden folders is or even which drive the .ptm.... folders are on. Before deleting the sub folders, open them and ensure they contain nothing of value.

    If you are using my Save to Two locations add-in to save to an external drive, it is possible that it may not be compatible with the external drive. In view of the problems you have been having I would recommend that you remove the add-in.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Now I have a problem with backing up and I also wanted to know from some old question that I asked you from where you gave me a link to save in two places.

    I noticed that it created some hidden files and I am not too sure whether or not I can delte the following:

    So I am going to delete the ~Normal.dotm and I can delete the Bulding Blocks.doc.

    I am so sorry that I do not understand these things. I guess having you assisting and ensuring that I remove the correct file makes me feel much better.
