Dear Community,
I am currently using MS Word and it keeps on crashing.
I have noticed that in every instance when the MS Word 2007 restarts - the ribbon down the side will show four or five instances of one document.
I usually do not know which one to choose - one will have repairs - of which when I try and see the location of the repairs - I can not locate them.
The ribbon on the top of the screen advises me that I have Macro's - I understand this as I save most documents as Macro enabled as some of my documents have pictures etc in them.
I have ended up with a lot of documents with parts missing.
I also have MS Word creating Back up's - this is confusing me and I have more icons on my desktop. When word crashes - most of my information has disappeared.

I am only new to MS Word 2007 - so I do not want to loose any data - yet I also want MS Word 2007 to work and not crash when mainly working on large documents.

Building blocks.doc (that appeared in one of your illustrations) is not a Word system file.
Building Blocks.dotx I explained earlier. It does not go in the templates folder.

With the illustration - just to confirm - orphaned lock files would be the ~Normal.dotm file.

I hope that I have not frustrated you. I am finally understanding a little bit about the functions of Word, but not to change the settings to cause major issues.
I guess I better get used to the terminology - such as what autotext entries is?
The default building blocks file will be rebuilt by Word if not present. It only really needs to be backed up if you have added to it, and frankly if you are adding autotext entries you would be better adding them to the normal or document template.
As for the illustration. Orphaned lock files will cause problems. If Word crashes they will be left behind. and should always be deleted. Word 2010 handles this better, but it can still be an issue.
Well I never thoght such a thing would happen.

With the location of the file - say for instance the Building Blocks.doc - that would be alright to save somewhere just in case required down the track as per that link that you showed me before.

I would ensure that Windows update does not operate without your consent and you do not leave Word open unattended with unsaved documents. Windows update if allowed to run unattended with crash Word. What you see is the result.
Close Word and make sure there are no lock files. Then carry on as normal.
