MS Word 2007 crashing and .wbk files appearing on desktop - repairs

Dear Community,

I am currently using MS Word and it keeps on crashing.

I have noticed that in every instance when the MS Word 2007 restarts - the ribbon down the side will show four or five instances of one document.

I usually do not know which one to choose - one will have repairs - of which when I try and see the location of the repairs - I can not locate them.

The ribbon on the top of the screen advises me that I have Macro's - I understand this as I save most documents as Macro enabled as some of my documents have pictures etc in them.

I have ended up with a lot of documents with parts missing.

I also have MS Word creating Back up's - this is confusing me and I have more icons on my desktop. When word crashes - most of my information has disappeared.

I am only new to MS Word 2007 - so I do not want to loose any data - yet I also want MS Word 2007 to work and not crash when mainly working on large documents.

    Dear Community,

    I am still having trouble with the directions that you gave for the Tools options.

    I included a screen shot in the sydrive link. I am unsure how you do that.

    Can you possibly assist step by step?

    I understand that you are assisting me the best you can without having remote access - it is hard to define what the set up of a person's computer is and therefore affecting the performance.

    I appreciate your assistance again.

    Word requires the presence of a printer driver in order to format the document. It does not require a printer to be physically present. You can add any 'printer' to Windows and make it the default.

    the location of Building Blocks.dotx is operating system and language dependent. It will be in a sub folder of

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Document Parts\

    or

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Document Parts\

    With Word closed, move it out of that folder and delete any lock file from the folder (beginning ~$) that may be present.

    I am just enquiring as to what you mean regarding building blocks.dotx 

    Do I locate where it is saved and delete it?

    Where is it supposed to be located?

    I do not have a printer driver installed - how do you do that - if you could please assist that would be fantastic.

    I do not blame Word for all my issues - but if worse comes to worse I will do a repair or reinstall.

    I would rather try the above and follow your instructions.

    I understand that MS Word is quite stable.

    If Word crashes, files that were open and changed should be recovered. This is what you are seeing in the left panel. If you have deleted or renamed normal.dotm, or made changes that affect it, you will be prompted to save changes to it. That is normal

    • in this case save them.

    You appear to be having all kinds of problems with building blocks.dotx. Move that file out of its present folder and Word will create a new one.

    Do you have a printer driver installed? Word requires one.

    Frankly I don't know why your PC is unstable. I have addressed all the usual causes of Office problems. Without hands-on I doubt I can help you further. I would suggest you seek the help of a local specialist. Word 2007 is normally quite stable.

    I also received another notification down the side of the documents that Normal.dotm is located there.

    I am very confused.

    Should I try and go through your fix again.

    Hopefully my screen shots explain everything.
