Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications aren’t compatible with Windows 8 (or Windows 8 Pro).

If you have Office 2003, it’s recommended that you upgrade to a newer version of Office to avoid any potential problems.

    I think you don't know what you're talking about.  Word 2003 is a far better product than all the Word 'upgrades' that followed.  This is at least for power users.

    im not sure what the diffence is but I installed office xp witch uses Office2002 as its base. It worked fine on my windows 8 pro. The only issue you have is that it will not open the files that were saved with an newer version of office. So if you have a newer version of office on 1 machine and you want to access those files on your older version then, on your newer machine you need to use the "Save As" under "File" and save it in the older version format. Then you can view and modify those files in the old and new version. Just make sure that you do not save as the newer version or you will not be able to view in older version.

    What specifically are the compatibility issues?

    It's odd, there is so little change between W7 and W8 for desktop programs, yet a program that ran fine in W7 is suddenly incompatible with W8.

    Sadly, some of us still use FrontPage (I know, I know; keep it to yourself). There's no upgrade to FrontPage 2003.
