why the fonts in word 2013 are blurry?

rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible! 

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

    Ah.  Hmm my problem was specific to office 365's word program. I hd no other issues with the font. That does sound like a graphics issue with your browser, and the parameters which are set for it.

    No he has no problems, he is using Windows 8.x  - IE10+11 under 8.x has greyscale blurred rendering which looks fuzzy when text is small or blurred when text is big, but it never looks good as no cleartype rgb is available ( as was under vista/7 ) . The very same illness that word 13 and all modern apps suffers from.There are thread on this board where people discuss IE11s issue in the same manner like this thread here leads nobody to nowhere..

    People why don't you simply see that all complaining is useless. There is no bugs to workaround, it is by design intentionally. Office 13 and W8.x are made that way. Nothing you can do about it and MS will also not do something. They had time since 2012 but it does not happen. And Win10 / Office16 will be no better. Go figure, register for the Beta Program and install them, you find the same and worser issues.

That does sound like a graphics issue with your browser, and the parameters which are set for it. Check out the settings for your browser. And fyi: I don't know anyone who uses IE...... Firefox, chrome, Safari, but it's been years and the last person was my 80 year old grandmother. No insult, just saying it's kind of ****.

    I feel your pain. 

    I checked disable graphics acceleration, but unchecked "use subpixel positioning".  After for S&G I did the cleartype ****. It seems to resolve my issues. 

    FYI:

    I have an Acer M5-583P running win 8.1 build 9600.  CPU: Core i7-4500 (1.80 GHz with 2core 4 processor).  Integrated graphics with intel driving them.  FYI my display color / clarity blows on this thing.  It's over saturated and the gamma is never right.

    Correct.

    But I found interesting thing:

    Last day I wanted to show my wife this issue. So I created one random text (docx with default 2013 version). Than I opened Word2013 on my left monitor, and Word2003 od my right one. Than I dragged and dropped previously created file to both programs and I wondered WHY both text at same magnification looks identical?? 

    Guess what! Word2013 had color clear-type... How I see that? I use snipping tool to capture part of text, than I open saved snip with picture viewer and zoom in. 

    NOT  SOLUTION, but rather proof of software BUG in Word 2013, which nobody cares to fix! 

    See screenshot:

    • First line is "file opened by double click"
    • Second line is "same file dragged and dropped into already opened file"

    Than I double clicked on insert object, which opens original file in new Word window, where "inserted" was added. So If same file is inserted into another file, we have proper clear-type. If opened directly, we have not. That speaks for itself: Microsoft could enable clear-type if wanted to. 

    regarding other type of devices (smart phones where pixel density is high enough that nobody will notice) they could "scan" where file is opened and adjust Word accordingly.
