Word keeps randomly switching to draft view when I have track changes on.

This is a problem in the office. We are a team of 8 writers, all using Windows 7 (32-bit) running Word 2010 (Office professional 2010) on generic Dell Optiplex 755s. Admin rights are severely restricted and so no-one has been able to inadvertently install add-ins or 3rd party software - essentially unable to modify C:\ in anyway. The only additional software pre-installed in Endnote X4. Track changes is always on.

The switching from Page Outline with a vertical reviewing pane, to, Draft view with a horizontal viewing pane, happens incessantly. Can anyone confirm that if you disable EndNote plugins that this solves the problem? The issue here is that EndNote is essential for us, and may other user. If EndNote is the confirmed culprit, are there any work arounds?

Have you tried disabling the Add-In? Add-Ins often come with other programs and your IT people may or may not be aware of them.

Under the Developer tab you can click on the two Add-Ins groups to temporarily disable your Add-Ins. See http://addbalance.com/word/developertab.htm#Add-Ins

The question is, though, if you disable the Endnote plugin, does the problem you are having go away. If it does, the problem is with that Add-In and you need to address your questions to the people who produce it. They are the only ones who can give you a solution since their software is producing the problem!

I also have EndNote installed. I think it's version X4 or X5.

Speaking of Add-ins, I'm curious whether others having this problem are looking at documents containing Endnote citations/references and with the "cite while you write" add-in installed.
