Change Background color Theme Office 2013

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community. It is unfortunate that you are unable to locate the option in Office 2013 to change the theme of applications. Let me help you with the issue.

For the Office 2013 (RTM) version you may follow the below steps:

1. Go to the File tab
2. Click on Options
3. Choose the General tab on the left
4. Find the ‘O ffice Theme’ dropdown item
5. Choose between White, Light Gray, and Dark Gray.

If you have Office 2013 preview version installed, then you have an option to change the background color by clicking on File, Options, General and under the group 'Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office', you may choose the background you wish to change to and click ok.

If you are using preview version of Office then you have a Smiley on the top right hand side of the application, you may click on it and send in your feedback.

Hi Deepa Raj - How unfortunate that all you do is repeatedly copy the same info from Office help without you or Microsoft responding to the real issue. I am sure all of the people with this same issue tried help before. Basically our comments are ignored and Microsoft's Community is just a one way conversation. We ask for help, you paste standard replies and then ignore the problem because Microsoft thinks the issue is resolved just because someone pasted a reply, even though the reply does not accommodate the requests of the users. In this case, we have a very hard time reading the new Microsoft menu options because we only have choices of dimmed gray.

Another voice that says white, not so white and a little less white are not choices.  It seems as if Microsoft has taken the stance that they know what is right and they are not going to change.  The crazy thing is that this is such an easy fix.  Somebody higher up in Microsoft needs a talking to.

There are very strict Health an Safety laws in the UK with regards to glare from monitor screens. I have also seen an advisory from HSE advising company's NOT TO INSTALL OR UPGRADE TO Office 2013 until the color sachems are more user friendly. The report goes on to say that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of people who are using Office 2013 report eyestrain and headaches as a result of the over bright backgrounds.

I think that if MS don't do something about this, LAZY PROGRAMMING ATTITUDE some that they could face court cases and claims looming

I am one of the thousands of working senior citizens.  I hark back to the days of IBM PC Jr, 5"  floppy disk  and using DOS code to print. (And pre-internet soft telephone interfaces (That is how  a team exchanged code in those days.  What Microsoft has done with 2013 Office is a shame and sham.  It is a major regression.  Heck I think the old XP was a far better product.

  The white background is killing me, (as I write this) with 8 hours as day on the screen.  Worse, I cannot uninstall and go back to my old 2010 professional without losing all my programs, including our critical medical office billing.  Another anti consumer kidnap strategy by Microsoft.

It appears Microsoft is moving to interface with the grade school set, i.e. "charms."

How about a version for adults in business!

I remember how consumer friendly Work Perfect was back in the day.

Having suffered with Vista, and spending more and more $ upgrading only to see the same poor results and now this 2013 version is equally a sham,  I am somehow going to find a way to dump Microsoft completely. I will go to Apple and let my tech savvy nephews (Apple fans) help me to find a better office suite for adults.

I have been around the block with over 30 years as a national consultant and president of a few national companies.  I can see when a company has gotten so calcified that it loses even the pretense of working with business folks.

It may take me a few months but I am done with the entire Microsoft experience as will be my staff. You will not get another  dollar from my firm nor my personal family, as if you could care.
