Office 2013 Installation Error "Something went wrong"

Hi,

I just purchased the Microsoft office Professional plus 2013 software. I clicked on the download link given in the confirmation email ->Saved the set up on local -> clicked the setUp.exe -> it started but after 5 mins it gave a message saying "Something went wrong.  Sorry, we ran into a problem.

Try going online for additional help."

I unistalled the previous 2010 version and also did a Clean boot. Now when I try to run the set up, nothing happens at all. I even tried to use the original link in the email and clicked on Run directly, but nothing happens.

Please help!!

One of the common reasons is that, if there is corrupted Office installation files on the computer, Office 2013 cannot be installed. Let us follow the steps.

Step 1:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs & Features to check for multiple versions.

Refer the Method 2 and run the fix it to remove Office suite manually from the computer. This is to ensure all the Office traces are completely removed from the computer.

Hi Deepa,

I had already tried all of these things and mentioned that in my question as well that nothing works. There is another thread where the same reply as yours has been posted and the solution does not work at all for the users.

One of the users - JonathanDyer76 posted a solution and it worked for me.

then try the click to run install one more time worked for me. I was having the same issues as everyone here.

    **Firewall.**In case someone is reading this thread after losing hair...

    My issue ended up being the router firewall (not the local computer windows firewall).

    Temporarily disable it during the download.

    Now I'm facing the post-install freezing at 16%!!!

    Anyone down this path?

    For anyone that has had this problem and has tried everything else to no avail, read on, because I may be able to point you in a direction you haven't considered.

    I had the infamous "Something went wrong" error with installing Office 2013 on Windows 7 64bit. The problem originally occurred for me after an automatic Windows update. I clicked on Outlook 2013 (which had been installed on my machine for a long time) and I got an error message that told me to repair my Office installation. I went to "Program and Features" in the Control Panel and did the "Repair" operation for Office, just like the error dialog to told me to do.

    I have now discovered that the "Repair" operation is really just a lightweight reinstallation of some kind, because about halfway through the "repair", I got my first taste of the dreaded "Something went wrong" error, which is probably the worst, most aggravating, non-helpful error message of ALL TIME. When that first error happened, I had no idea what I was in for. It took several weeks of time and frustration to figure out what was going on.

    I ripped my hair out trying to fix the error. I scoured literally hundreds of websites and forums in search of a solution. I tried the "FixYa" fixes (both automatic and manual steps) to no avail. I uninstalled Office 2013 and every other Office-related program. I did all sorts of automated and manual removal steps to try and eliminate all traces of Office from my machine, in a desperate attempt to get a "clean install" of Office 2013.

    I have a "Click to run" install of Office 2013, but I also tried various disk-based installs. And yes, it's incredibly difficult to get your hands on disk media for Office these days. But don't bother, because it still didn't work -- same old installation error, even though iirc it doesn't give you the exact same "Something went wrong" error wording, which was an oddly refreshing change of pace in that long desperate cycle of problems. Yeah, twisted reaction, I know.

    The fact that Microsoft seems to spit this stupid canned "FixYa" answer to every single person who ever breathes a mention of "Something went wrong" -- it just added to my frustration. I probably ran the FixYa over a hundred times in combination with other fruitless fixes and steps to get Office 2013 to install without being taunted with the maddening "Something went wrong" error.

    Nothing worked. Until...

    I won't get into all the details of how I stumbled across it, but I noticed some odd behavior with Windows Explorer (the file system Explorer, not the web Explorer). That led me to some sites that had registry fixes for the file system issues I was experiencing. Though a long chain of technical sites and forums, that led me to discover the culprit that had been causing ALL my problems, including the now-famous "Something went wrong" error with installation of Office.

    A few weeks before I experienced the Office problems, I had gotten frustrated with Windows 7's stupid "Libraries" feature. I won't rant about why I don't like them, but I discovered there are many other people out there like me. There are simple registry edits and step-by-step instructions widely available online that will rid of you of these dumb "Libraries" if you want to remove/hide them in Windows Explorer.

    DON'T remove them! THAT is what caused my problems.

    I guess the Office installation assumes that all the Windows 7 Libraries are in place and unaltered by registry-editing know-it-alls like me. And apparently the installer does not gracefully handle it if it can't find the Libraries or the Library-related registry entries it expects.  When I restored the Libraries registry entries to the original Windows 7 installation state -- all my problems disappeared. Office 2013 installed perfectly without a hitch (the Click To Run version).

    I doubt that Libraries removal is the cause of most people's problems in this thread and the many others out there getting "Something went wrong" errors. But if you have tried everything else and are grasping at straws like I was, perhaps this will be the needle in the haystack you are looking for.

    I've tried all these steps to "fix" office, none work, if the "fix" claims it works it won't allow me to uninstall after.
