scrolling speed excel with filters

There are various reasons that scrolling is slow on Excel for Mac 2011. Please first try a few troubleshooting steps:

 

0. Make sure both MacOS and Mac Office are patched with the latest updates.
1. Run "disk utility" (a system utility) to repair the disk permission
2. Run "font book"  (a system utility) to resolve duplicated fonts
3. With all Office applications shut down,

    a. Delete com.microsoft.Excel.plist from ~/Library/Preferences/

    b. Delete ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ (the whole folder)

4. If step 1~3 doesn’t fix the problem, create a new user account and see whether Excel works on the new user account.

 

If these steps don't improve the performance, you can end me (xinxin_at_microsoft.com, replacing _at_ with @). I should be able to find the root cause and provide some advice.

scrolling on excel 2011 for Mac is extremely slow when filtered how can this be fixed

I have the same issue when filtering e.g. ~1500 rows from a spreadsheet with ~2500 rows and ~50 columns.

Scrolling speed is just fine until I activate the filter.

The spreadsheet only contains "static" text and numbers, i.e., no formulas, conditional formatting, etc. I did contain some grouping but removing that did not make a difference.

I have a recent core i7 MacBook Pro (end of 2011) with an SSD and 8GB RAM running Lion.

I did not install Bootcamp or VM so I don't know what the performance under windows is on the same machine.

Did you get any joy from Microsoft on this? I have the same issue. I am a "standard user" of excel 2011 and it's great apart from this one issue. My sheet has 350 rows and any filtering makes navigating the sheet impossible. Scroll happens several seconds after moving the mouse wheel. When filtering is off it is quick and snappy.

To give you an idea of how slow it is I will boot up Windows in Parallels and use Office 2010 as it works as it should speed wise rather than use Excel for MAC. I think this is a bit of a shame - it's certainly a pain.

Elsewhere on the web I have seen references to removing duplicate fonts as a remedy but that didn't work for me.

Any Ideas?

If you file only has 350 rows, the performance shouldn't be an issue anymore. I speculate other things are dragging this file slow. Can you send me (xinxin_at_microsoft.com, replace _at_ with @) your file? I should be able to find out what is going wrong.
