scrolling speed excel with filters

Scrolling is terribly slow if I have filters active.

I have a 40,000 row sheet, and it scrolls normally when no filters are active.

If i have a filter that excludes most of the items except for 100 or so, the scrolling is unbearable. It's like its scrolling through the hidden rows or something to that effect.

I have updated to the latest office patch and i have a 2010 core i7 MBP with an SSD and 8GB of ram running Lion.

This is basic basic stuff, it's incomprehensible that this would be an issue.

    There are many free public web sites that you can use to share files. SkyDrive is Microsoft’s free sharing site. DropBox is another, but there are plenty of them.

    You make a folder in SkyDrive, set sharing for Public, and then upload your workbook into that folder. Then get the link to the uploaded file from SkyDrive and past it into a reply here.

    Yes - example workbooks are essential to figure out what is going on. Please post your example on a public web site. Be sure it contains no private or confidential information.

    first:

    pls provide Link where to post or eMail adress where to send. I have no public web site AND between providing to you / microsoft to investigate and PUBLIC is a difference

    second:

    it is about logging, assessing and maintaing private photos.

    so where to deliver to?

    Jim,

    in another thread you assumed it to be the Retina display .. very good guess, but ...

    pls try to convince me about the following:

    I have a macbook pro retina 8 GB.

    I have spreadsheets with 3000 or 7000 entries and formulas.

    Filters are active but critera set to "show all"   ===>>>  scrolls fine.

    The choosing any of the filters and select a subset => scrolling get awful AND even NOT SCROLLING but eg entering a single character into a cell and move to next line.

    TAKES 2 seconds.

    ==> same MacBook, VMWare Running, Using the retina display of course ;-) and doing the same with the same XSLX (XLSB did not solve the issue) under OLD XP and ... wonder ... it is quick in scrolling using ths XLSX via netsharing.

    Result to me clearly is NOT the retina, but the programming of MS Code on Mac OS.

    It must have to with handling of filtered subsets.

    As you know, when filters are active, the whole dataset is kept in a shadow table and it must have to do sthng with that.

    btw:

    a.) i tried all suggested stuff with the fonts

    b.) i had the same behaviour with a freshly setup Mac OS in this MBP retina.

    c.) once logging off and logging on changed behaviour a little and for a short time => Memory consumption or sthng with libs in Memory

    ==> anyhow: filters set to "show all" and all scolls fine.

    You can have my workbook if you want.

    And to be pretty clear:

    this really is a mess
