Hi Michael,

My problem was solved after restarting/starting SOFTWARE PROTECTION service in windows 8, that service was stopped and its behaviour was Automatic(Delayed Start). So i just start that service and error gone. YOu try this as well.

Reinstalling did not help, but rebooting always seems to work, as it did with you, Jerry. It's very occasional -- perhaps every couple of months it happens. My guess is that it's related to the Internet connection and MS can't confirm the license online so it gives that message. Rebooting might be just a way to get the connection sorted out. Or maybe the Software Protection Service just gets its act together after a reboot.

Girish, neither the Reset or the FixIt worked for me. We just bought about 50 of these for our school, a second unit fails to power up (it did initially, now it does not accept a charge).

Can I get an exchange on these units? Any [reliable, working] contact information you can provide would be appreciated.

    Hi Marcelo,

    Thank you for replying.

You may Refresh or Reset the device to the original manufacturer settings, after which you may check for Windows Updates and install all updates related to office Home and Student 2013 RT.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

Note: By choosing a Refresh, your documents and files are retained, but your Office Home & Student 2013 RT is rolled back to the preview version. Doing a Reset will roll your device back to its factory settings, thus you should back up your documents and other files prior to performing a reset.

    Thank you

    Hi Girish,

I tried, but the problem remains.

    Ideas?

    Thank you,
