I am getting the following error in Office 2013. My software is licensed but it gives this error and exit:

Microsoft office can't find your license for this application. a repair attempt was unsuccessful or was cancelled.

Hi Michael, 

My problem was solved after restarting/starting SOFTWARE PROTECTION service in windows 8, that service was stopped and its behaviour was Automatic(Delayed Start). So i just start that service and error gone. YOu try this as well.

    I've tried for days now to activate my stand-alone version of Word 2016 in Windows 10, which until recently was working fine. Then, for some reason, it wouldn't launch. That led me to many and various ways of uninstalling and reinstalling Word 2016: streaming, download installer, download offline installer. And then trying a quick fix, an online fix, the office activation troubleshooter, and so on. Regardless of what I do, I always end up here when I launch the program and after I go to the website to activate Word:

    When I run the activation troubleshooter, I usually see this:

    But regardless of whatever I do, Word 2016 will always return the first error that it can't find the license.

    What the devil do I need to do to make Word 2016 work again? I've been using this program without a problem for over a year, and suddenly I have nothing but problems trying to install it and/or activate the program successfully.

    I'm having the same problem on my surface RT. I ran into a problem with Windows 8.1 and had to go for a full reset. After resetting the machine back to Windows 8 and going through all updates, I'm now unable to use any Office app. The procedure above makes no difference. Message errors:

    • Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper had stopped working

    Hi All,

    I have just taken my Windows RT out of the box and get exactly the same message when starting office.

    any help would be appreciated, not a good start with my new toy.
