How do I turn off the Research paine when I open Word?

You will get a close symbol on the top right corner of the Research Pane, you can click on the close symbol and turn it off.

 Or you can click on the icon for Research Pane on the Toolbar at the top.

    I am dealing with this problem on a Dell Venue. Perhaps it is related to tablets.  My experience is very similar to everyone else.  Would love to a way to shut off the function or provide a bug fix.

    That could definitely be helpful information. Since so many of the users experiencing the problem are using some version of Surface, it could be that it is a hardware issue.

    I was having this problem on my brand new Surface 2.  Turns out the Alt key was stuck down and that was creating all sorts of weird behaviour. Pressing the Alt key a few times fixed it.  Suzanne's mail sort of sent me in the right direction.  Thanks.

    If there were an answer, we would have provided it. The problem has been reported to Microsoft and is under investigation. That's really all we can say. Unless MS can reproduce the problem, there's not much hope of a fix.
