This is how I solved the problem:

Go to File, Options, Proofing and click on Custom Dictionaries. Then pick the dictionary language. Then you will see your language in the list with a checked box next to it.  Remove the check and check it again. Then click OK and OK. And hopefully your problem will be solved.

This worked for me, I hope works for you too.

    Hi

The solution the the problem, as far as I have acertained, is to create a new Dictionary.

Office 2010 - Open Word, click on File, select Options, select Proofing, and click the Custom Dictionaries tab.

This is where you create your new dictionary...

Once saved, deselect CUSTOM.DIC check mark.

After creating a new dictionary, browse to the old one: c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UProof

In that folder is a TEXT file called custom, and your new one should appear to.

Double click the old one, Custom, copy the words from top to bottom, then open your new dictionary and paste them in there.

This will ensure your already added words are not lost.

After the above process has been done, the Add to Dictionary button will be highlighted and not be greyed out again...

    Gary

    Thanks Suzanne

Once again you have gone to great length to justify, presumably to yourself, the amount of time you spend in these forums.

The reason I don't ask questions is because of the poor quality of responses in not just this but many other forums, which I can gauge by simply reading the responses other people get.

PS don't waste your time responding to this reply as I will not be looking at this thread again.

That answer is provided in http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MasterSpellCheck.htm, which was referenced in the very first reply in this thread.

If you had read the entire thread, you would have found that the OP never said that the provided answer was not the solution. "vicfatah" came along later and said that none of the replies answered his question; presumably your answer would not have helped, either, since he said that the previous replies (which included this) had not helped. Ultimately his problem was solved by his corporate IT people, but he was unable to tell us what they did, so we don't know what the solution ultimately was.

If you have a question about some other aspect of Word (obviously you know the standard answer to this one), please feel free to post it, and we will do our best to answer it. I see that you have been a member since August 2008 and have never asked a question, so I don't think you can complain about the replies you have received.
