Office Icons are all missing/replaced by generic white icons

I also had this problem (using Win10 and Office2016) and none of the above solutions fixed it for me, but I have found a very simple solution:

1. Unpin all of the Office applications for which this is an issue from the task bar.
2. In Windows Explorer navigate to the Office folder (for me this is Program Files (x86) > Microsoft Office > Office16)
3. For each of the application .exe files you need:

• 3.1 Right click on the .exe file
• 3.2 Select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)

4. When all of the applications shortcuts are on your desktop, rename them if you want (by default they will all be in the form "APPLICATION.EXE - Shortcut"), for example, I renamed "WINWORD.EXE - Shortcut" as "Word".
5. Drag each shortcut to the task bar and drop it on
6. The task bar item thumbnail should then keep the correct icon
7. You can then delete the shortcuts from the desktop without losing the task bar thumbnails.

had the same issue with icon office 2013, deleting cache icon didn't wok, adding keys to registry either. And it was not a file association problem (since clicking on the weird icon launch the software with the right icon)

You get that problem if you (or ccleaner...) deleted some weird files in C:\Windows\Installer (hidden file)

If you don't find on C:\Windows\Installer a bunch of files between bracket, and  in one of them containing the wordicon.exe don't look further that's your problem.

• find in a friend computer in C:\Windows\Installer the folder containing  wordicon.exe
• copy it folder (with all  other icon on it). (the folder name will look like {90150000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE} 

copy it into your computer in C:\Windows\Installer

• run task manager, terminate the process explorer.exe
• in task manager/ click on "new task" write explorer.exe
• click ok

Thanks, this works for the icon on taskbar & startmenu.

But browsing files in explorer will not show proper icons. I will try to find way to uninstall and reinstall office.

Icons disappear when {GUID} folders are deleted from C:\Windows\Installer. CCleaner apparently will do this, though I don't use CCleaner and I'm experiencing the problem.  I do, however, use Revo Uninstaller, and I am wondering if it is the culprit.

This is the exact problem, because I accidentally delete C:\Windows\Installer myself to save space in drive C thinking it store installation files that I don't need anymore.

I tried hours to uninstall & reinstall but no luck. Last resort to system image restore

I upload the Subfolder that belongs to Office 2010 32bit here, if someone want to test if it works:

In addition we have Visio installed on our Terminal Servers. Unfortunately i hadn't the GUID of Visio,

so i looked in the Registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

There is a key named:  {90140000-0057-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

So i created a folder named exactely like the one in the Registry at "C:\Windows\Installer"

and put a copy of the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\VISICON.EXE" in

"C:\Windows\Installer{90140000-0057-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}".

After logoff and logon again at the Terminal Server, the icons were display in the startmenu displayed correctly again.

Don't know if anyone on this thread has actually a workable repair for the icon issue, but in another thread I found a fix that actually worked for my Office 2010.  I have provided the post below so that other recently frustrated users like myself may benefit!
