Word 2011 always opens with Final Showing Markup view

EVERY SINGLE TIME I open a document created with Mac Word 2011 I get the Final Showing Markup version.  I don't WANT to see all the changes.  But no matter how many times I try to save the document with Tracking set to Final and/or the Show Markup categories unchecked, it still opens the next time with all the stupid changes showing in red—Tracking set to Final Showing Markup and every Show Markup category checked.  (Tracking is turned OFF, so I can't even see why it's keeping that information.)

And there is no way in Preferences to set this, either.  Just "how do you want the changes to look?", not "do you even want to see the @#$% stupid changes in the first place?"  !!!!!!!!!!!

You've got to Accept or Reject All changes ... that's the only way they disappear.

Keep Tracked Changes turned off and if you do need to see "what's different" between two versions of the same document, investigate the Compare Document feature.

    Yes that also works Jim, but because I did not see (or appear to have access to) the accept all changes, I had to do them one at a time through my document.  Hope things do not pop up ugly again - but that might be in the MS world plan!

    This has nothing to do with Mac vs PC or trust center settings.

    This has everything to do with the way the Track Changes feature works.

    If a document has tracked changes in it then the document will open with Final Showing Markup or other view involving tracked changes.

    As has been said repeatedly, the way to stop this is to either accept all changes or reject all changes using that particular button on the Ribbon. Going one-by-one won't necessarily tell Word you intended to accept or reject ALL changes. Use the button on the Review tab of the Ribbon that offers Accept all Changes or Reject all Changes.

    Do a "Maggie" on the document:

    1.  turn on hidden characters the ¶ button.

    2.  click at beginning of document.

    3.  scroll to end of document

    4.  click just before the last ¶.*

    5.  now do a copy (⌘-C)

    6.  open a new blank document

    7.  now do a Paste (⌘-V)

    8.  now save document with a slightly different name (example: letter.docx would become letter1.docx

    This should correct any corruption.

    *  example:

    John hit the ball out of the park.¶ ⬅copy to here

    ¶ ⬅not here.

    Do this with each Document you run across. that exhibits this after you have removed the defective Normal.dotm File.
