EVERY SINGLE TIME I open a document created with Mac Word 2011 I get the Final Showing Markup version. I don't WANT to see all the changes. But no matter how many times I try to save the document with Tracking set to Final and/or the Show Markup categories unchecked, it still opens the next time with all the stupid changes showing in red—Tracking set to Final Showing Markup and every Show Markup category checked. (Tracking is turned OFF, so I can't even see why it's keeping that information.)
And there is no way in Preferences to set this, either. Just "how do you want the changes to look?", not "do you even want to see the @#$% stupid changes in the first place?" !!!!!!!!!!!

You've got to Accept or Reject All changes ... that's the only way they disappear.
Keep Tracked Changes turned off and if you do need to see "what's different" between two versions of the same document, investigate the Compare Document feature.

Sorry I meant getting to a new document that the settings are for "Final" - in other words turning off what seems to be a default setting.
Rats - looked into the settings for Tool->Track Changes->Highlight Changes and even after one deselects all the menu items, they reappear as they were when you open the doc again.
I give up!

I have been having the same problem. Accepting all changes works fine for an existing document. However, every new document I open also defaults to "Final Showing Markup" in the Review Tab.
I have tried everything to turn this off and reset it. I am convinced it is a bug or at least an undocumented feature. I am open for suggestion.
Yes I too am not sure how one gets to a new document that the settings are for "Final Showing Markup" - each time I have been going to Tools->Track Changes->Highlight Changes and deselecting all the things that have been selected. Probably would make sense to save one of these as my preferred template.
But I doubt I will get around to that - rather grouse about MS.
This worked for me - a short note that on the Mac it appears one has to accept each change one after the other. (I have never been known to miss a menu or dialogue option) - har). At any rate after all changes accepted, save the document, close and reopen and it is an ordinary document, and you can turn off the "Track changes" in " -> Tools - Thanks again Jim Gordon.
I do not miss any "Trust Center (sic)" - it is sort of like a "Start" to turn off the computer!
The correct answer has nothing to do with Trust Center settings. There is no Trust Center on the Mac. This discussion is about the Reviewing feature's Track Changes. The correct answer is to accept or reject all changes in a document.
