OneNote 2010 can't connect to Windows Live

I have Office 2010 which is updated on my Windows 7 {64bit} on my computer. The OS is updated too.

I bought a Windows 7 phone {Samsung Focus} and I created a Windows Live account plus I installed Live Essentials on my computer. If I'm correct, I need to use Skydrive to sync OneNote between my computer and phone.

The problem is that OneNote can't connect to Live. I've been trying for days. I have 6 notebooks in OneNote. I choose to share on the web, the web location is Windows Live. After the pop up of contacting server comes up I get the message " Unable to connect to Windows live. Below this there is just the icon "Share Notebook" which is grayed out. I've tried this with all of the notebooks. I have tried this while my Live account is open on the browser. As I understand a login window should pop up, however this never pops up. OneNote on its own is deciding to locate and log on with the credentials.

I'm going crazy over this, any help is appreciated!

I have figured this out, after trying all the things above. It came down to one thing, two-factor authentication. If you have this enabled, to sign into OneNote on your PC you have to use your App Password, not your actual password to your Live account. So log into your Live account, Click on Security Info, and then click create a new app password. It will then display the current, or new, app password. Now use that password that it gives you in OneNote and everything should sign right in. Now I am able to sync all my files from OneNote to my phone without any issues, without messing with IE settings, and all that other stuff.

Not sure if you have resolved this issue yet!

I recently had the same issue on my Windows 7 64-bit pc, when I tried to connect to my Sky Drive account through One Note I was experiencing 'Can't Connect Error', Tried restarting WebClient and cached credentials this did'nt work, found out this was not related to any services but related to IE settings, by performing a reset of all settings and advanced settings this corrected the issue, I am now able to connect Sky Drive via One Note with out any problems

Thank you for your very prompt reply.

I only have to use a proxy for one application that doesn't connect properly from work - that's DropBox. I enter my proxy info into DropBox directly, so that setting doesn't impact other applications.

I tried entering the same proxy settings that work in DropBox into Internet Explorer, then shut down and restarted OneNote and tried to sync and got the same error, so entering the proxy in IE did not help.

I'm not sure if I have Windows Live Essentials - how would I confirm that?

Edit: I've downloaded WIndows Live Essentials 2011 installer, and will install it now and see if that helps. Is there any particular component of WLE that I need to install? Or can I just choose one component (I'm installing the Photo Gallery/Movie maker) to get what I need?

2nd Edit: installed Photo Gallery and Movie Maker, launched OneNote and tried to sync a notebook and got the same 'your not connected to a network' error message. So unless there is a specific Windows Live component I need to install, that did not help.

3rd Edit: If I connect to a wireless network w/direct access to the Internet, the Notebooks sync w/out issue. So this is clearly something to do with OneNote not being able to access the internet via my work network. What I don't get is 1) Why this doesn't affect any other app I'm using on my PC, personal or otherwise, and 2) Why, if it is a proxy issue, entering the proxy in to IE doesn't resolve the problem. Is there a way to enter proxy information directly into OneNote?

Is there any other "obvious" issues that might be blocking OneNote alone, while every other app/browser I use can access the internet w/out issue?

4th Edit: Things are getting weird now...I was, as I noted, able to sync my notebooks on a direct-access wireless network. I then reconnected my wired network, and was still able to sync. I assumed Onenote was still using the wireless connection. I then turned off my wireless network, and left wired connected, closed and restarted Onenote, and it was still able to sync my notebooks...I made a change and was able to see that change on my Android phone in the new Onenote app.

I need to reboot next and see if this change persists (in a meeting so can't do this now) but wondering if it's possible that allowing Onenote to sync over wifi has cleared up whatever was blocking it before...I'll post back.

5th Edit: Returned to work today and attached to my work network and the same sync error continues to happen - the "We can't sign you in because the network isn't available..." message.

So Onenote continues to refuse to see/access the network connection for skydrive log-in.

Redflea - sorry you are hitting this issue.

I suspect some proxy/firewall issue. You seem to mention you need to use a proxy for other applications. What is the proxy server/firewall/gateway brand and version?

Do you have windows live essentials?

Also please look above for the "private message" tab where I'll provide you with something else to try.
