microsoft word starter 2010 won't open

I was just using it, then I went to re-open for my daughter and a box appears saying microsoft word starter cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in control panel. Well i went to control panel under programs chose the program and clicked change, it still didnt work. Does anyone know whats going on? and or how i can get it to work?

This just happened to me.

Basically:

  1. open the control panel
  2. choose programs & features
  3. right click on Microsoft Office Starter edition
  4. select change
  5. Say "yes" to repairing the app.

    Uhmm My Microsoft Excel and Word wont open and a notification on the taskbar always pops up and says that the Program is Downloading the Required Files what does this mean? Like I dont get this very much often

    I had the same problem. Could not repair it with any of the solutions I found on line. I remembered that in my program System Mechanic advised I turn off some start up programs that were slowing the computer down. One of them I turned off was:

    CLISStart.exe

    Publisher: advanced microsoft devices inc

    File name: c\Program Files (x86))ATI Technologies \ATI.ACE\core static\clistart.exe

    Startup Type: Registry-run key (all users)

    I know very little about computers. When I went back to turn  this file on I found that System Mechanics said it was users choice and 57%of users recommend it be turned off-so if you are a novice-careful what advice you go by.

    After I turned it back on works fine......good luck!

    This seems to have worked for me. I have a cheap compaq cq56-115dx notebook and I haven't seen the error for 2 days now.

    The MS Word Starter .exe is located at

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Virtualization Handler\CVH.exe

    on my machine. Double click and it brings up a Virtualization Handler dialog that says something like "Hey, I'm doing some stuff but if you dont want to wait, you can pause what I'm doing" But it had finished by the time I read the sentence. It had a 1 line description of some process it performed and then to the right, had a green check box with the word "Done" beside it. There are 2 buttons at the bottom of the dialog. One says Pause and the other says Close, I believe. Pause is disabled and Close was the only option. Like I said, it did it's "thing" so fast that Pause wasn't an option.

    I closed the box, opened up my file and I haven't had the message since. It's been about 1 hour now, and I'm on the public library wi-fi...sloooow. I even created new files, made some new goofy/funky files and opened my resume, which uses a pretty involved template.

    So far, so good.  The message had been appearing about every min. on my box. Not any more.

    I have just purchased a brand new laptop and only had it one day.  The same issue is happening to me.  I cannot open word or excel.  I have been through all the processes described above for rectifying the problem and not one of them has worked, so what is the answer please Microsoft.  I cannot even open any word documents now either.  Its driving me nuts.....

    I just purchased a new laptop as well and experiencing the same problem, however when I go to the control panel to repair the issue and click on the change option I am not presented with the repair option as previously mentioned is available. I am relieved to see that it is not only me having this issue since this is a new computer but it is incredibly frustrating and a complete waste of time.  Good luck resolving your issue and if you do please advise the rest of us on what is the right course of action to correct the problem.  Thanks.
