Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works.  I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless.  I have never come across someone who has done it.   I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click.  Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews.  Then click NO for the question:  Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

    No, sorry, I did that- "insert Attachments". It makes a photo album.

    using the "Attachment" option I get - "Change to an Album" and "No thanks"

    Just use "Insert Attachments" - you don't HAVE to click on the "pictures" option....

    No, sorry, I did that- "insert Attachments". It makes a photo album. I just tried again right now with 5 photos. I also tried with "Attach File" icon. I think because I am attaching photo's, Windows Live overrides it and does it it's way. nd the phot album is put on Skydrive because it says I have into 19/01/2011 to download etc.

    anyway, I installed Thurnderbird last night. I swear it was like opening the windows in a hugely stuffy room i could breathe! Windows Live Email version 9 wasn't bad but this version 11has so many buttons and functions- wow, just crazy.

    arg....

     

    this is close to the subject at hand:

    I updated *something* to try to get the Windows 7 photo screen saver to fit-photos-to-screen (like it did with xP) and low and behold, it installed a new version of Windows Live Email- I had no idea it was going to do this and now my email is effed up.

     

    anyway, so I am trying to send photo's to a friend- just 10 photos for god's sake, and this thing is making a photo album (I selected the send photos not the photo album button! but it is making the photo album anyway). And it is uploading my photo's to Skydrive!! (good thing they aren't nudies, ahah)

     

    anyway, geesh, it is also taking a HUGELY long time. I am guessing because the Skydrive is busy? I mean, sending 10 photo's just as regular attachments is normally instantaneous and this thing is taking like 5 minutes!!!

     

     

    So, question: how can I send photo's as just simple old fashioned attachements and not use Skydrive?

    I should ADD- this is with my service providers account- which I am accessing using Windows Live- so this has nothing to do with Hotmail- it is my cable company's account.
