Error 3061 Too few Parameters. Expected 1

I'm using a Union query as a Source for an Append query.  I will leave the code here.  tblGLTransactions and tblGLTranaactionNo. I don't know if that is causing a problem.  The tblGLTransactions has 2 fields, the fiest field GLTransactionNo is an autonumber field, so I didn't append to that field.  I need both tables because of the relationship for a form and subform for GLTransactions.  The entry I'm trying to append closes the year end.  Well, it should.

I should post the union query as well.   I have drained out John Vinson who has been helping my like crazy in the past two days.  This is the final step in completing this database and I cannoyt believe it crashes.

Here is the Union query ......I changed it.  No AccountTypeID and no AcctgDate.  IT's been modified for the extra fields. EDITED 09/12/11 12:51

SELECT qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals.AccountID, IIf([TotalTrans]<0,[TotalTrans]*-1,0) AS Debit, IIf([TotalTrans]>0,[TotalTrans],0) AS Credit, 0 AS GLTransactionNo, "Closing Entry" AS Source,qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals.TransDate FROM qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals

UNION ALL SELECT  ([Forms]![frmYrEndProcessing]![cboRetainedEarnings]) AS AccountID, IIf([SumOfProfit]<0,[SumOfProfit],0) AS Debit, IIf([SumOfProfit]>0,[SumOfProfit],0) AS Credit, 0 AS GLTransactionNo, "Closing Entry" AS Source, DLookUp("FiscalYearEndDate","tblMyCompanyInfo") AS TransDate FROM qryYearEndBalanceSheetProfit;

 Here is the code:  I created another query with GLTansactionNo and AcctgDate.   The same 2 fields as the table.  It still fails with the same Error 3061. Like the Title

   Thanks for any help.  this coded edited Sunday 09/12/11 12:54 pm

I will reply, Rob, if only to wish you good luck.  I wish I'd been able to resolve the issue for you, but I think we'd just be herding those kittens for evermore I'm afraid.

One final point of detail.  I'd recommend:

"#" & Format(Now(),"yyyy-mm-dd hh:nn:ss") & "#" & _

By using the ISO standard for date and time notation it caters for whatever Windows local date format is in use.  As you'd written it, it would fail on my system for instance as the UK short date format is dd/mm/yyyy, so 4th July would be changed to 7 April, which your neighbours to the south would not appreciate.

Mea culpa. I left out spaces in two places.  BEFORE SELECT and BEFORE FROM

strSQL = "INSERT INTO [tblTransactions] (TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit," _

        & "Source, GLTransactionNo)" _

        & " SELECT TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit, Source," & lngID _

        & " FROM [qryuniYearEndFinalClosingEntry] ;"

        CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError

If lngId is equal to 33, then Debug.Print should return

INSERT INTO [tblTransactions] (TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit,Source, GLTransactionNo) SELECT TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit, Source,33 FROM [qryuniYearEndFinalClosingEntry] ;

    Okay Gina, I just sent John a very long-winded explanation of  what I believe may be wrong. Also table structures I'm trying to append to from a Union Query (I have posted in the question).

    I will send my updates in a reply.

    Thanks for that.

    John,

    I don't think I answered your question re: table structure.

    I have two tables.1)  tblGLTransactions, 2 fields [GLTransactionNo] autonumber ,[AcctgDate] Date.

    My second table. 2) tblTransactions, [GLTransactionNo] Long Integer, ,[TransDate] Date , [AccountD] LongInteger(LookUp),  [Debit] Currency,  [Credit] Currency,   [Source] Text ,   [DateTimeStamp] Date

    What I am trying to do is Append these 2 tables.  The tblGLTransactions was created so that it would be the recordsource for the main form and tblTransactions would be the recordsource for the Subform.  I GLTransaction can have many GLTransactions in the subform, thus a GLEntry with the same GLTransactonNo.

    I believe the structure kind of sucks because, Access needs a conrtrol in GLTransactions to commit the record, so I just  added the field AcctgDate.  I didn't want to, but had to.  This was advice given to me from someone in this forum.  It's okay. it works.

    I only added AcctgDate in the srtSQL INSERT INTO statement from tblGLTransactions because, the autonumber [GLTransactionNo] will assign a new GLTransactionNo.

    This works fine for the first srtQL.  It is what I want.

    But the second strSQL fails Error 3160  Too Few parameters. Expected 1.

    The rule, I beiieve is that every column has to be the same in datatype and the same in No. of columns.

    In the Union query as my source (qryuniYearEndFinalClosingEntry)

    I have "" As GLTransactionNo  in both of the querys to form the union.

    "" or null Is a text a value? I think.  But GLTransaction No is Long Integer.

    I'm not sure, but if the Union Query value for this column in the secong strSQL won't change to the New GLTransactionNo, like it does in the first strSQL.  How do I get this value Inserted to tblTransactions in the second strSQL?

    I used Dim lngID as Long Integer , if you see the DMax Line just before the second strSQL executes, But I also used " & lngID &" as GLTransaction No in the INSERT INTO  for GLTansactionNo which should be the same GLTransaction as the first strSQL.

    I hope your with me with this because,  the UNion Query I use as the Source has GLTransactionNo as "".

    I need theGLTransactionNo column as "& lngID &" As GLTransactionNo. to match the GLTransactionNo in the first strSQL.

    Therefore appending the Closing Entry and the Year end is done.

    Thanks if you can understand what perhaps I need.

    In the Union query, Can  "" AS GLTransactionNo be changed in the second strSQL.  I'm not really sure if It could.? I'm not even sure if ""As GLTransactionNo. is the problem for executing the second strSQL? I'm just trying to figure this one out.

    Rob
