how to uninstall OneNote

I am not sure why this has become such a hot button issue. I am sorry that my comments have made it worse.

I added the remove instructions at the top f the thread because I thought it would help people. It was done directly from my uninstalling it for a test. Let me repeat the basics of that instruction, since a piece of it seems to have gotten lost:

From Start --> Control Panel --> Programs and Features, find your version of Office in the list of programs. Click the "Change" link at the top of the list. Wait for Office to do the set up. On the list of options, select "Add or Remove Features". Click Continue. Select OneNote from the list. RIght click it and select "Not Availalbe", then click continue again. Your computer will buzz for a while.... When done, OneNote should be removed from your computer.

Please be sure that you have another printer available to that machine so that you get a new default printer once Send to OneNote is gone.

As for the other question: No - OneNote doesn't slow down my machine. I usually have at least one instance of it up and I don't see any slow down at all. In fact, installing it and getting it set up only takes a minute or two on my machines. I would love to know more about what is on your machines that is causing the slow down.

Some of us do care about OneNote problems. Just because I can't live without it doesn't mean you should use it. I am sorry for the problems this thread has caused.

I hate one note getting in between me and my projects.

There are a couple of options to consider depending on the version of Microsoft Office.

First of all, it doesn't matter if you have Windows 7 or not, Microsoft OneNote can be disabled from startup and additionally disabled from within Microsoft office itself.

To disable OneNote from Windows Startup on just about any version of Windows, type in the following command in the search-box at the Start Button:

       [   %windir%\system32\msconfig.exe   ]

Once the "msconfig" option shows up (it should be the only option listed), then simply click on it to open. Under the "System Configuration" Window that pops up, jump over to the "Startup" tab and scroll through the list until you find OneNote. Once you've located it, [ un-check ] the box to the left of it, then click on the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the window. Now simply close this window and restart your computer. You should no longer be nagged by OneNote upon startup.

To disable OneNote from within Office itself, simply open the Control Panel and click on Programs and Features. Look for your version of Microsoft Office, highlight it, and then click the "Change" button at the top of the window. It will open a new Office Window and give you the option to "Add or Remove" features. Make sure that option is selected then click "Continue" to proceed.

You will notice all the components of Microsoft Office now listed. Simply find OneNote and click on the down-ward facing small black arrow to the right to open a drop-down list which gives you the option to make it "Not Available." Select that option and continue. Once finished you simply restart your computer and Viola!---No more OneNote!

None of these methods have worked for me.  Don't get me wrong, I'm no computer expert, but I'm not an idiot either, and I can follow directions if they're clear.

I've finally just removed the icon from my taskbar.  Apparently going into PowerShell and copying and pasting whatever doesn't work.  But every time I opened OneNote, my brand-new, Windows 10 laptop crashed.
