I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem. You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

I don't know of any patch that would cause this behavior.
If you have another version of the document or any information about what you were doing with the document before it got into this state, it might be helpful. Otherwise, the only suggestion I have at the moment is to use the document that Tony provided.

Hi Shana,
This is caused by a long standing problem with Word 2010. You have done nothing wrong, and don't have a virus - it has been triggered by an unusual, probably accidental, combination of actions in Word.
If you are still having problems with the file, I have put an alternative fix (of the original document) up at http://cid-142722a74d07b70e.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Opt%5E_3%5E_29%5E_11%20-%20Repaired.docx. If you have a later version that needs fixing, please place it somewhere online and I (or Brandon) will take a look at it for you.
Thank you Brandon! I've never had this problem before, but it seems to be getting worse over the weekend. Did Microsoft release some weird patch last week which would have caused this? I've run my virus scan and that's not the problem. What else would do this? If this keeps up I'm going to have to switch to Latex because Word is too problematic.

I'm sorry but I cannot do anything with this file - the zip content is corrupted. Have you saved it directly to a thumb drive?
If he's still around, Brandon may be able to get the start of the document as he has different tools from me.
