I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need

The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag

Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760

I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

You're welcome Catherine.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem.  You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

    Hello,

I recently encountered the same problem with an assignment I've been working on for a couple of days. I've been trying with Tonys program but I cannot make it work. If you could help I would be very grateful!

The file is located here: http://www.4shared.com/file/MQTJaVgP/ovn3.html

    Thanks in advance,

    Moa

Right, i'm yet another with this problem, im quite sure its the oMath and Choice error (thats waht XML says anyway)

Ive tried using the Broken documents addon but for this document it doesnt do anything at all - no process occurs.

here the url for it http://www.sendspace.com/file/mtqcpd

end tag error message says line 2, column 13776

    any help would be brilliant,

    thanks

    See http://www.sendspace.com/file/t8h0y2

It was indeed an omath problem. The problem was at the first equation in your text. You might have to retype it.

I am having the same problem with my students business plan file located here - http://www.4shared.com/dir/xtGyVmgl/sharing.html

    Thanks Krista

    1. You should try the rebuilder Tony provides (http://www.wordarticles.com/temp/Rebuilder.dotm)
    2. If the rebuilder doesn't work, you should provide the entire docx file. Trying to repair a single xml file is much harder than if we have the entire document.

What I can see from your xml file is that the error is due to some form of archive corruption. Did you try to save the document directly to a usb stick or another form of removable media? If so, then that is what is causing the problem.

I tried to recover as much as possible, but without the original document, I can't verify if the xml is correct:http://www.4shared.com/document/qmhcnwEC/document.html
