I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem. You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

For my own amusement I have created an AddIn that fixes these documents. I have had to leave it, and need to tidy it up but, for anybody who wants to play with it as is, I have temporarily posted it here:http://www.wordarticles.com/temp/Rebuilder.dotm. It needs a reference to "Microsoft XML" version 4 or later; other than that you should be able to just drop it in your startup folder. Whilst I would appreciate any feedback, I really don't have time to look at it at least for the next week.

Hopefully Yves or Tony will come along. I believe that in all of the previous cases, they have delved into the xml and made the necessary corrections and then posted the document back to the web for the OP. In the case of these errors, no "fix" as such has been posted that will allow those not familiar with xml to make their own corrections.
