I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem. You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

Does that mean you have some other version of the file that might be in better shape? If your buddy was able to edit any xml this was not the file he started with. The start of the file - which is good - could be used to extract some structural information about the document, mostly pakage overhead, but not any document content.

No I didn't do anything with removable media with it. I had a buddy of mine who is good with computers attempt to fix it and I think all that he did was try to convert the file to .doc, .xml, and .zip and nothing worked. I'm not sure what exactly he did, but he was trying to edit the xml and he did manage to get just the first part of it recovered, but couldn't get the last of it for whatever reason. Thanks for trying to help me, though, I really appreciate it!
Unfortunately there is nothing I can do with this file. The first 4K is good, but the rest has been overwritten and it cannot be unzipped. Did you save it (or attempt to save it) to removable media?
