Can't open Word File because of end tag/start tag mismatch error...need XML help!

I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need

  The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag

Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760

I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem.  You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

    I recently finished a physics report and when I wanted to print it out and hand it in, I got the same problem. It says there's an error in line 2 coloum 38786

    I was hoping you would fix it, if you can and if you have time. Thanks in advance

    I have the same problem as everyone else on here, and I see that you have fixed a lot of these. If you could spare the time, do you think you could take a look at my file? It's not very long and not quite completed yet, but it took me forever to get the data compiled that I did. Thank you.

    I have no idea what was wrong (OK I have some idea!) but that was a first real test of an AddIn I have been putting together to automate the process of fixing these documents. I just clicked a button, selected the file, and a fixed document appeared! I love it when things come together! Of course, now I have this, Microsoft will no doubt fix the cause of the problem.
