Hiii... I saved a document on my computer and when I tried to re-open it, just couldn't... I found this error message: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column:646910. I already tried to open the file with notepad but i dont understand anything that appears there... i only get nonsense letters and symbols... :s Can anyone help me pleasee??? I believe the 13th <mc:AlternateContent> tag had no close. I manually added the closing tag and was able to open the document without further repair.

I heartily recommend that you seriously proofread this repaired copy for lost content before submitting to your client or boss.

If I remember correctly, the problem with your DOCX was an oMath mismatch. You should try the fix available here,

You receive an "end tag" error when you open Word 2007 or 2010 files

... How do you fix it?

If you make sure that your Office software suite has all applicable service packs and other updates applied, the instances of this problem are greatly reduced.

    Try the rebuilder from http://www.wordarticles.com/temp/Rebuilder.dotm. Also, note that this problem can be avoided in future by applying Office 2010 SP1 (though that will not repair existing files).

    I need help.  I am getting the same end tag/start tag errot in a docx document, my phd dissertation.  My last back up was a week ago, which will not kill me if I have to go back, but it was a lot of work.  I tried open office, and a few tools on line, all failed, if I'm using them correctly.  I see some post their dosx's and an XLM expert can fix it in a few seconds.  Please help.

    Thanks a zillion Jeeped and Tony!!  You guys are my saviours. I wouldn't have been able to hand in the report tomorrow if it weren't for you.

    It was extremely disheartening to think that I have to re-write everything again from zero. I sincerely appreciated your kind help and advice in this.

    I hope that Microsoft can come out with a fix for this soon, but in the mean time  please be the angels for other unlucky people like me!

    @Tony: Okay I will rebuild the graphic on page 16. It won't take long. It's better to do that than to risk the file crashing again. :D
