    Ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2010 and it still crashes.  Advice I am receiving now is that there is no other option than to re-format my computer entirely (wipe eveything off and start over).  That doesn't sound like a very good option to me.

    Stick with 32 bit. Most Office add-ons are written in 32 bit only. Installing 64 bit will only cause problems and you will end up having to re-do the whole thing in 32 bit.
