We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

Your single-use code is: 908607

If you didn't request this code, you can safely ignore this email. Someone else might have typed your email address by mistake.

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team

Hello Lisa Murphy3,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you received an unsolicited CAPTCHA. The following diagram illustrates the possibility of an unsolicited code.

If you just received an unsolicited code out of the blue, the odds are that someone incorrectly entered an address (whose address may be similar to yours) when requesting the code.

Please ignore the email for now and observe if you continue to receive such emails please let me know again.

Best Regards,

Jimmy Wang |Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi Lisa,

If you have the ability to edit or delete that post, you should do so immediately.

Those single use codes rotate periodically and will come up again for the same account.

So if you post the code publicly, a bad actor can keep trying to access your account until that number comes up again.

Hi! Can someone from the Microsoft Team provide a link to the most common scenarios under which a single use code is requested by someone other than the account holder.? And any risks associated with that code being generated and scammers using it to access the account? it seems the scammers would need to have hacked into the email account to receive the code? are there any other risk areas? Thanks

There are now 798 people saying they have the same problem. l received two codes I didn't request on 31 March, but when I look at my recent activity on Microsoft, there is no unsuccessful attempt for that date!

Lots and lots of unsuccessful log ins from all round the world almost every day on my account!

What is Microsoft doing about this, because judging by this thread, not a whole lot! What am I paying a subscription for!

It’s not possible that I keep receiving the unsolicited request for a single code for sign in and that it’s someone doing it in error. Clearly someone is trying to access my account. I’ve been getting them now for about a week. Yesterday I got it twice. I need help to protect my account.
