We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

Your single-use code is: 908607

If you didn't request this code, you can safely ignore this email. Someone else might have typed your email address by mistake.

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team

Hello Lisa Murphy3,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you received an unsolicited CAPTCHA. The following diagram illustrates the possibility of an unsolicited code.

If you just received an unsolicited code out of the blue, the odds are that someone incorrectly entered an address (whose address may be similar to yours) when requesting the code.

Please ignore the email for now and observe if you continue to receive such emails please let me know again.

Best Regards,

Jimmy Wang |Microsoft Community Support Specialist

Sorry - that was sloppy - the email essentially said "hey there here is the single use code that you requested!" But I had not requested any code, single or otherwise. Thanks for helping in spite of my sloppiness!

I have had emails from Microsoft with a single use code that I requested, but I DID NOT request it. What should I do?

So you say "a code that I requested" and then say you didn't request a code? Huh?!

If you're getting reset codes you DIDN'T request you immediately put them in the bin of whatever email app you're using, I use GMail on iOS so once they're in the bin immediately after I get them I immediately empty the bin. That way if someone has somehow found access into my email to receive reset codes for my Micro$oft account they aren't in there long enough to get them.

I also have my Micro$oft recovery email address free from anything else, that's all that that email address is for, that way in case they do have access to my account for some reason I don't lose any further information, I can just change the password and keep going. Using the password creator on iOS is phenomenal, 12 random letters and symbols that no one could ever guess. A computer might eventually but it might take them a while.
