How to uninstall Outlook (new) on Windows 11 and prevent it from redownloading when opening the Windows Mail?

Hello!

Could you please help me with uninstalling the new Outlook from my computer (Windows 11) as I would still like to use the outdated Windows Mail app?

What I tried:

  1. Uninstalled the new Outlook from settings (Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps)
  2. Blocked new Outlook preinstallation via:
  • Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -AllUsers -Online -PackageName (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName
  • Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers -Package (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName
  1. Blocked new Outlook installation as part of Mail and Calendar deprecation via:
  • Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | Where {$_.DisplayName -match "microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps"} | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online -PackageName {$_.PackageName}
  • Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers -Package (Get-AppxPackage microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps).PackageFullName

All shell commands were run as Administrator and I also deleted OutlookUpdate folder in Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\Orchestrator\UScheduler_Oobe\OutlookUpdate

I would appreciate any advice regarding my question :)

    Hello Addie,
    Thank you for your response, i got this when i input the code:

    Get-Acl : Cannot find path

    'C:\Users\KING-CHIKE\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration'

    because it does not exist.

    At line:21 char:8

    • $acl = Get-Acl -Path $folderP

    If possible can you share me a video on how to go about this or other ways of achieving the same outcome please.

    Hello Addi.C, Everything went well.

    I had to change the script a little because the file name inside the Migration folder was correlation.json.

    Regarding the # line, you can decide to delete it yourself. However, to avoid further issues, you can choose not to delete it and only change your username before proceeding with the operation. Additionally, you need to ensure that your username is correct.

    Regarding the issue of not being able to find the file, you can try searching for Migration in your computer files to see if it can be found. Then try again.

    Dear Kingsley Obidinnu ,

    After completing the code input, you can right-click on the Migration folder, open Properties, select your account in Security Options to open Advanced Options, and check if it is a write rejection setting. If so, then your operation is successful, and you can open Mail to see the effect.

    Hello Addie.C,

    I have tried copying and pasting the code you provided (minus the # lines as suggested) and it indicates errors in the code that need to be corrected/removed and when I remove the items it indicates as errors, I just get more errors.

    Then I tried your manual suggestion to go to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration (of course inserting my actual username and it cannot be found on my computer. I tried to locate it by searching through File Explorer and through the Run prompt, neither could locate it.

    So, is there some other way of preventing Outlook/New Outlook from installing itself so that I can just use the Mail App? It is so superior in its simplicity where Outlook and in particular this New Outlook are proof that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

    Thanks for any additional suggestions/functions that can be performed to permanently block Outlook/New Outlook from auto-installing itself.
