New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

    That definitely makes sense from a marketing standpoint, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if you're correct. I just wish they would have at least replied to this thread by now, seeing as it's going on 10 months old.

    I guess that's what I get for having expectations, lol

    Any word about why it took them so long to even acknowledge this issue (which they still haven't done publicly, to my knowledge)? My company has essentially given up on Outlook because of it.

    War story: In the late 80s I did some consulting work for the marketing department at Biomation. They made logic analyzers and were putting the finishing touches on a new software release. My first task was to learn how to use a logic analyzer with their new software so I could find the bugs. When I was done, I suggested at a marketing department meeting that the company include a list of all known bugs with the software release. They all laughed and the VP of Marketing said, "We can tell that you've never worked in marketing before." (I hadn't.)

    As I said in an earlier post, I suspect that Microsoft has switched their focus to AI (Accelerated Idiocy) because that's where the money is these days. I believe that a person should be paid for their work, and that investors should get a reasonable return on their investment. But I don't believe that money should be the primary focus.

    I think that Microsoft completely blew it with the Monarch project to unify their email software in their effort to maximize corporate worth in the stock market, There's a lot to be said for open-source software, like Thunderbird and Firefox, where the people who work on the software focus on making a better product. BTW, a primary design focus at Mozilla is personal privacy, as opposed to Congressional hearings on the matter.

    Well, my employer attempted to get all of us to start using the new Outlook. Most of us switched back, as it was too buggy and too simplified compared to classic Outlook. There are a lot of missing features.

    On my personal laptop I've switched back to Mozilla Firebird, which is so much more powerful and reliable, especially with its add-on extension support. I have no plans to change in the future.
