I am trying the New Outlook. I cant sort my inbox by typing a letter - am I missing a setting?

I am trying the New Outlook. I used to be able to sort my inbox by column (FROM) and then type in a letter and quickly get to all emails from people starting with that letter. For me that was a quick way to navigate my emails. It does not seem to work like that now. Is there a setting that I am missing or did Microsoft take that out in the new version? I understand that the search bar can be used and filters can be used, but I want the one letter search functionality that I have been using.

    1. In the past if I was on an e-mail I could click on the From field at the top, and it would sort all mails, keeping the one I am on at the top. Now it starts with A at the top

    2)Previously I could type the name while in the e-mail and it would sort according to that name, now it does not do that anymore.

    This is seriously going backwards.

    I am facing the same difficulty in Jan 2025. Is there any expected timeline for this to be incorporated into NEW OUTLOOK?

    Elani,

    The problem we have with your response is that we are not asking for new features. We are asking why Microsoft removed features that have long been a part of Outlook. I had a look through the Roadmap link but how are we to know which "new feature" caused this existing feature to disappear?

    I have a further concern .. as we don't know which new feature removed this behaviour, we can't tell when it is going to be forced on us.

    As others have indicated, we are not prepared to try "new Outlook" with this feature missing, so that surely also must be impacting the extent of testing "new Outlook".

    Can we have an update regarding Microsoft's plans for this specific issue?

    My go to was sorting by name or subject and then type the first letters of either of them to quickly find my mails, the new search tool doesn't respect the sort done before using the search tool, it mixes mails again by date when delivering results. Why are you making things more difficult to use?

    Just use prefix "from:" or "to:.." and the then the name in the search bar. Not as convenient as just typing the letter but works for me.
