I am trying the New Outlook. I used to be able to sort my inbox by column (FROM) and then type in a letter and quickly get to all emails from people starting with that letter. For me that was a quick way to navigate my emails. It does not seem to work like that now. Is there a setting that I am missing or did Microsoft take that out in the new version? I understand that the search bar can be used and filters can be used, but I want the one letter search functionality that I have been using.

I miss this function as well. I ditched the new outlook just because of this loss of functionality. I don't understand how a "new" app could take a step back in functionality. Wouldn't you take every great thing the classic app could do and improve on it, not remove it? You software engineers don't make sense sometimes.
This is really unfortunate this is not a feature. My productivity has dropped by half by not being able to do this. When will this be implemented?
Billy, I agree. The lack of contrast between read and unread messages is a problem. I don't mind the layout changes in the new Outlook, but visually, I find the appearance of the inbox hard to use. Even the basic option that are provided do not help.
The one feature I like on the new Outlook is the ability to pin messages. But I'm going back to old Outlook for now. Visually, I just can't cope with the appearance of the inbox.

Same here, just started using New Outlook yesterday as my organisation has updated our systems. It's really annoying that this feature is not available. New Outlook definitely feels like a downgrade so far compared to Outlook 2016 which I was using previously.
It has been a while since the question was posted and no solution/patch has been provided. Can the solution be implemented soon?
