This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

I can't make it work on my Windows 10 VM. I even removed all email accounts to try it from scratch. I first added my @outlook.com account, which is associated to a Microsoft 365 Family account, but the option to set this account as the primary account is grayed out.

Assuming that this means my @outlook.com is by default the primary account, I tried to add any of my other accounts, for which I have an Exchange Online Plan 1 subscription, but I receive this message:

PS: I am currently upgrading my licenses to Microsoft Business Basic, because from what I can tell it will not work with Exchange Online (Plan 1). I will update this post when I know more. The license cost for me increases with 51% as the Exchange Online (Plan 1) costs me 4,44 EUR/license whilst Microsoft Busienss Basic is 6,72 EUR/license.

    Hi all,

The Outlook Team just published updated guidance about licensing, How licensing works for work and school accounts in the new Outlook for Windows (microsoft.com). The main takeaway is that if you already have a license that includes Outlook and you have your licensed account added to Outlook first, you will then be able to add accounts that do not have a license for Outlook.  Just wanted to be sure you saw this. Its noted in the article its currently rolling out. I have not had a chance to test it yet.

That doesn't work... As soon as you switch to the new version it makes you log in to your other account then you get the same error message. But if i revert back to legacy outlook, both accounts are there.

Yep I can verify this worked on mt Mac too - simply switch to legacy outlook (toggle button in task bar), add your email accounts, then switch back to the new version of you desire - all my emails remained when I did this.
