Hey there, my name is Ajibola and I'm excited to help you today!

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. Still, they have stated that they are listening to user feedback and prioritizing the most requested features https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/getting-started-with-the-new-outlook-for-windows-656bb8d9-5a60-49b2-a98b-ba7822bc7627. You can check their blog posts and release notes for the latest updates on the new Outlook for Windows development.

In the meantime, you can still use the classic Outlook for Windows app to access your IMAP account, or use a web browser to access your email provider's website. You can also switch back and forth between the new and classic Outlook for Windows apps by using the toggle switch at the top-right corner of the window.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. I'm here to help!

I'm not convinced the "New" Outlook is working for IMAP. haven't tried POP. regardless of which IMAP account I try, I either get "something went wrong" or Sign in failed. Try again in a few minutes! It also notes that "you may need an app password" I haven't figured out how to address the "other" password issue??

The new Outlook does work with IMAP. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-an-email-account-to-outlook-for-windows-6e27792a-9267-4aa4-8bb6-c84ef146101b . Until recently, it did not work with POP, but that has changed as well. according to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/feature-comparison-between-new-outlook-and-classic-outlook-de453583-1e76-48bf-975a-2e9cd2ee16dd , it should also allow POP accounts.

There are other, good email clients, some of them free, like Thunderbird or eM Client. The latter is very good and is free for one device and with one or two accounts. Thunderbird supports pop and IMAP. eM Client supports POP, IMAP and Exchange.

Thanks, Brian, for confirming that the new Outlook doesn't work with IMAP and POP accounts. What's strange is when I contacted my internet provider for help, the tech support person was unaware of this and actually thought he could help me. The other weird thing is that back in January when I was coerced to use the new Outlook, it worked, as I said up until a few days ago which now makes me think that it must not actually been the new Outlook. I thought it was because the format and print looked different and larger, but now I don't see how that was possible since I use IMAP and POP at my provider. I held onto the Outlook Express, and fortunately for me now, I am able to send and receive emails. My internet provider did suggest switching over to Thunderbird, and I declined to proceed in that direction. Maybe if those of us who are on IMAP and POP accounts can wait a little longer, Microsoft will make the necessary improvements. I have only been paying $1.99 per month for extra ICloud storage and was unaware that some were being charged $129/month. Thanks for this communication forum since Microsoft support isn't user friendly.
