Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature.     I was using the classic mail tab on outlook but now it doesn't work and if I try to open classic mail from my start button it's doesn't open any more. Any suggestions?

    The problem AND the solution lie between your/our ISP and Microsoft.

    The ISP's who do not use IMAP passwords means that you cannot get past this last step when setting up the NEW Outlook with Microsoft. The setup wants you to enter the IMAP PW from your ISP but of course you do not have one, so the program will not allow you to go any further or bypass this PW. That begs the questions:

    1. Why doesn't the ISP set up and use IMAP PW for their customers?
    2. Why doesn't MS allow a bypass if you do not have an IMAP PW from your ISP?

    Answer to first question: ISPs are fighting to make profits. It takes a lot of software setup and $$$ to have every customer have an IMAP PW and ISP's simply have no reason to do this just because of MS Outlook, one program.

    Answer to second question: Microsoft keeps stating that their software people in this product line are working hard on this problem.

    I will be 86 in 9 days and have been waiting for the solution for 5 years. Will the solution appear before I pass on? Anyone want to take bets?

    What an absolutely stupid upgrade then!!!!

    If i cant use IMAP emails on the new OUTLOOK, why on earth would you stop the use of the outlook that was working previously.

    This is stupidity at its finest!!

    Is there a work around?

    My Business email is on IMAP.

    How do i set it up now without losing valuable and important info i have on there?

    How can it help me if it doesn't fix the problem? Without "categories", I'm stuck in an abyss. The reports function was changed and what they did wasn't an improvement.

    Can you imagine how many people use .gmail and .yahoo who have lost a lot of functionality. My assumption is that you want all of these people to magically move to .outlook. Good idea for you if we could all do that.
