Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. You can check their blog posts and release notes for the latest updates on the new Outlook for Windows development.

GOOD NEWS FOR MODERN MAN! :-) There is a way to revert to Classic Outlook, and possibly to prevent forced migration to Outlook (New).

To open Outlook (New) without an associated e-mail account, see the article "How to use Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021, and Office 365 without an associated Email Account," from Companion Link Software. I tried it and it worked for me. I've now got Classic Outlook on my new laptop.

If you want to prevent Microsoft from forcing Outlook (New) on you, see the article, "How to stop migration to new Outlook" from Office Watch. The methods described are not guaranteed to work, but may be worth a shot.

Hi Squeezy, your ISP must have upgraded to IMAP required Passwords, that is why the NEW Outlook works now for you. The only way you can find out for yourself is to call/contact your ISP and directly ask them if they now require IMAP password for every customer. When I try to install the new OUTLOOK, I get as far as entering my IMAP PW which of course I do not have because my ISP does not require one, and MS will not allow the install to continue without me entering an IMAP PW. I just love it when companies cannot talk together to fix simple issues. People have told me to just use GMail or Yahoo etc. but I HATE their email programs, I like OUTLOOK.

I live in rural France and my ISP is Free;fr, owned by the Illiad group and the 2nd largest ISP in France. I have used them since I moved here in2003 and always been very pleased.
