Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature.     This is EXTREMELY annoying. I purchased Office 2024 Home and Office specifically to use Outlook on my new laptop, AND IT DOESN'T WORK! Classic Outlook works just fine with my IMAP e-mail account, but new Outlook doesn't. I note that your message is dated more than a year ago. WHY HASN'T MICROSOFT FIXED THIS BY NOW? You suggested toggling back to Classic Outlook, but I can't because new Outlook won't let me in without a connected e-mail account.

    This is really outrageous, but sadly typical for today's Microsoft. Is there a way I can switch to classic Outlook without without first getting in to new Outlook? Say a registry entry I can change?

    Google's AI suggests modifying the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook" by changing the value of "UseNewOutlook" to "0" saying, "this will force Outlook to launch in the classic view when you next open it." Sadly, there is no such key in my registry.

    Thanks everyone for your responses. We all share frustrations with Microsoft. One of the core reasons I stayed with Microsoft is that I've always been a PC guy as opposed.to Mac and have resisted joining the 'closed' Apple environment. With this IMAP email issue, it appears that MS is going down the same road as Apple . I think its time to reevaluate the benefits of Microsoft and look at going with competitive services.

    I have done the very same with AI and received the same answer. My ISP, Charter-Spectrum per my conversations with them, have other projects with limited resources, both people and finances, so I will see Hell freeze over before I see Charter add IMAP accounts for the everyday common folks; businesses, well that of course is another story, more $$bucks there. Money, the root of ALL evil.

    So, every time my computer tries to have me try the NEW Outlook, I have to close it 3 times before it allows me to go back to Outlook Legacy. And of course, MS is playing hardball, so they won't give their customers a work around, no motivation and don't give a damn. Customers are #1? Bull s*%$t.

    The most sense I have managed to get is by putting the question into CoPilot. This is the machine's answer:
