Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature.     You're not listening!

    All IMAP email accounts have a password. As I said before, you cannot create an email account without a password! It's literally impossible on any mail server I have ever worked with! If they don't have one then a company has probably used a default password for all accounts - which is actually illegal. So if this Spectrum Charter company, I assume the cable company, you keep going on about aren't providing passwords it's probably because they have other motives for not providing them such as zero securtity so they can read your emails and sell the contents to a third party.

    If they are that shady, or incompetent, that they don't offer passwords then don't use them. Get a Google account instead. Or just Outlook.

    The special password was something that was a thing about 10-20 years ago with Google and Microsoft. It's called "App-specific passwords." They have not been in use for more than a decade (10years) and the 'Less Secure Apps' feature in Google accounts has also been retired. The wording asks for an app-specific password but that's just Microsoft trying to avoid admitting them have disabled IMAP on the new Outlook.

    As of yet?! IMAP has been the industry standard for twenty years! It's not a new thing by any means. Which is why I know they are intentionally disabling the 'feature' so they can charge people for it once they retire Windows Mail.

    Thanks for explaining, we have exactly the same problem, a complete pain. I wish MSoft would sort this out. You would think with their resources that they would be able to.

    Every time I use Legacy Outlook mail, a new screen will appear stating to convert to new outlook. Annoying, YES! WHY? Because MS knows they cannot support IMAP yet on many ISP servers such as Charter/Spectrum. And this is because many of these ISP's do not use IMAP PW's yet, so, we cannot get past this requirement when trying to set up/convert email account from Outlook 2016 Legacy to NEW Outlook. And my ISP is using PORTS 993 and 587 so that is not the problem. The problem is: MS requires an IMAP PW, but many ISP's DO NOT as of yet. Yes, we need and do use a PW to read our OUTLOOK mail from our ISP, we just are not required to use a SECOND PW via IMAP.

    I think you may have missed my point. Yes, you need a PW to use a Charter/Spectrum email account. The problem is, MS wants a 2nd level of security which is, to have a second PW, the IMAP PW. I do not disagree with MS on wanting this second level of security, it is a GOOD thing. Charter/Spectrum may upgrade to this in the future, but for now, they have other technology they are spending their engineering money upon, such as Hi-split. Competition within the ISP providers is fierce, and profit margins are getting mighty thin. It behooves MS to offer the upgrade to those who do not have an IMAP PW if MS wants to get everyone OFF the Legacy OUTLOOK program. This is not rocket science, it just takes COMMON SENSE, which I am told died back in the 1950's.
